Hereis an idea (in the form of a website) thatis sole purpose is to connect potential volunteers with non-profits in search of help.

Volunteer Buffalois goal is to raise the profile of volunteering and help people get more out of life by making it easy for them to give time to our local communities. The site is designed to use web-based technology to match the skills, interests and availability of volunteers with a range of opportunities. It is also a system, which builds strategic alliances to help meet the needs of volunteers and the voluntary sector.

This resource is presently in developmental mode. Phase I will involve collecting information from local organizations that are or will be in need of volunteers. VBis aim is to register a very diverse range of organizations, both public and private. They are in the process of entering data into a database and designing a page for each organization.

The format for listings of organizations will depend on the scope of its needs. All listings will include organizational goals and/or mission statements. Certain listings will include images and some may include slide shows. Listings will be grouped according to category, (such as medical, social, cultural, etc.), location and by the type of skills needed. This will enable volunteers to easily find appropriate opportunities.

The Volunteer Buffalo web site is currently under construction, but organizations are welcome to start entering their data (at no cost) for the launch.

Photo: Organizations like the Johnson Park Neighborhood Association (JPNA) are constantly in search of volunteers for a variety of purposes. The VB website will hopefully be a very instumental tool for folks like Marilyn Rodgers (photo) of the JPNA who fight to make Buffalo a better place to live.
