Official: Tim Russert Highway

The bill to rename this portion of Route 20A passed the House - with the support of Congressman Brian Higgins - and the Senate - with the help of Senators Shumer and Clinton.
While renaming the section of roadway after Buffalo's most-notable son is a nice honor, one wonders if more will eventually be done to honor the long-time Meet the Press host. In particular, there is an active online petition advocating renaming Greater Buffalo Niagara Airport after Russert.
Naming airports after celebrities is not uncommon but often controversial. If John Wayne gets an airport, shouldn't Tim Russert? Does Russert represent the spirit of Buffalo like Louis Armstrong represents New Orleans?
Go Bills.

This project is both a success and a failure. Both productive and counterproductive. I like it and I hate it. And most comment posters are right regardless of their take... reason being there are lots of sides to this story. It completely depends on so many factors, some of which have no definitive proof. Therefore we must rely on speculation, judgment, experience and opinion for much of the basis of the argument for or against.

Sunday was the first time that I ever saw a real live pet blessing ceremony. I had heard of the occasion before, but never really had the opportunity to check one out. This was also the first year that Reverend Drew Ludwig (Lafayette Church) ever hosted a pet blessing ceremony. And the ceremony went so well that attendees are already talking about how to make next year's blessing bigger and better. Drew didn't even know if animals were going to show up since this was such a last m …

Seems like it is the least we could do for a guy who spoke so highly of Buffalo. I can't think of a single person who did more to promote Buffalo in a positive way than Tim Russert. As far as i'm concerned, there is no honor too great for this proud Buffalo resident.
DEFINITELY name the airport after him.

In 20 years no body will know WTF he was and most of his pals from S. Buffalo probably never even watched his show, a bit too high brown for them. Go Bills!

Russert was OK, but far from good, let alone great.
For chrissakes - they didn't even fuss as much with Walter Cronkite or Huntley and Brinkley - who ARE 'Great".
Russert was a hack at best - his only claim to fame was he was from Buffalo...
But name an Airport after him - sorry - Buffalo Bob Smith or a host of others - past Presidents - would be more fitting...
The orgy of overblown and undeserved acolades was much too much...
