Nico is one of the coolest (and happiest) pets in Buffalo.
How about posting this adorable pic of my dog, who was adopted from the Buffalo Animal Shelter, with a reminder that they have the coolest pets over there at the shelter. I hate it when my friends, coworkers, etc. tell me they went to a pet store and paid hundreds of $$$ for a pet. My dog, Nico, is the coolest dog anyone ever had, and she was virtually free! I think the folks who run that place over on Elm Street (not to mention the dogs on death row) could really use the exposure. Just a thought...
This was an e-mail sent to us from a BRJ reader. It's short, concise, and from the heart. I have been guilty of buying my pets in the past, but I recently had a change of heart and will pick up my next pet from the shelter or the pound. These pets are the most devoted animals in the world and deserve a second chance.

Comfort Zone Café Opens On Elmwood
I'm already comforted to know that a new coffee shop opened yesterday on Elmwood (see original post). Not because I need more coffee... it's more about a business coming onto the street and occupying a space that has been empty for many years. I must say that I didn't realize how much of a dead spot that storefront actually was until the café opened. Now the fabric awning is up, the lights are on and there are people in the window. Separated at Birth
These two houses are virtually identical in design. They are part of a row of similar brick houses built in the late 1800's, probably from the hand of one builder / developer. They are simple, well built houses of a type created for a newly growing middle class.
