Nickel City Fencers' Club
Last night was the opening night for Shakespeare in Delaware Park. While the action of the play down on Shakespeare Hill was cut short by the rain, there was plenty of action on the pergola at the Rose Garden above.
It was enchanting to watch the Nickel City Fencers, clad in white jackets, parry between the white columns of the pergola against the rosy backdrop. The club was there to welcome the opening night of Shakespeare's 31st summer season. Usually, Nickel City Fencers can be found honing their skills at St. John's Grace Episcopal Church at Colonial Circle.
Nickel City Fencers' founder Joel Jelliff is holding adult and children's classes every Tuesday.
Classes are for beginners and experienced fencers in "Classical French Foil Fencing". Beginning students will learn the "en garde" stance, advance, retreat, lunge, basic parries and riposte. Experienced fencers will study techniques and tactics.
Children's Classes: 4:45pm - 6pm Tuesdays (minimum age 8 years) Adult Classes: 6:30pm - 9:30pm Tuesdays Location: St. John's Grace Episcopal Church, 51 Lafayette Avenue at Colonial Circle, Buffalo Info: Call 716-569-2819, or email: joeljelliff@yahoo.com

Warren Buffett, the legendary investor and owner of our hometown Buffalo News, acknowledged the fate of newspapers in his 2006 shareholder letter when he wrote:
Nevertheless, this operation faces …

Or, maybe you're just thinking "Oh f#@!, I have to drive home in this s*$#."
Either way, we're here to lift your spirits.

A two-story Delaware Avenue office building is getting a new face and a third story. The Buffalo Planning Board approved renovation plans for 334 Delaware Avenue at this morning's meeting. At an after school program recently, some kids were doing homework, some were on computers and some were in the gym. But a small group of fourth-graders were designing and building boats out of household products- plastic cups, construction paper, and tape. They had been building and modifying their boats throughout the week, trying a few different design and construction plans. Now they were ready to race them across a tub of water, using a fan to power them across. After deal …
