New Era Gets National Attention

Last week, New Era received some more press coverage from Portfolio magazine, a publication of Conde Nast. The article highlights how New Era has doubled revenues from 2002 to 2005 and now generates total sales of $350 million.
New Era has enjoyed substantial growth abroad and expects to generate revenue of $45M from Europe in 2008. And the international movement continues as the company announced a deal with the Korean Baseball Organzation as teams in the South Korean baseball league will begin wearing the signature New Era 5950 fitted caps.
Chris Koch, CEO of New Era, runs the privately held company. Later this month, he'll be honored by the Buffalo Renaissance Foundation as the Man of the Year. With a growing company that employs over 1700 people and has helped add to the revitalization of downtown Buffalo, it seems to be a fitting honor.

The following is a submission by Bob Franke (Grant-Ferry Association) regarding the recent decision to allow La Nova to purchase a neighboring lot for additional parking.
The Common Council voted 7-2 in favor of transferring the property to La Nova Pizzeria for parking. Joe Golombek and David Rivera were the only ones who opposed the transfer.

Buffalo is #1 on National List of Top Arts Destinations. As I read the headline, I paused in disbelief. My city? Number 1? In something positive?
Sure enough, AmericanStyle magazine ranked Buffalo number one on its list of Top 25 Arts Destinations. The report by WGRZ cited: AmericanStyle readers referring to Buffalo as ‘a hidden jewel’ and ‘a well-kept secret'. We agree.
What makes our city a top art destination? Let us focus on just one element—artists who find …
One of downtown’s most visible restoration projects is moving closer to construction. With bids in, work on CityView Properties' Genesee Gateway located at 99-125 Genesee Street is expected to be underway in August. The $12 million project will see the decrepit Genesee Block at the corner of Genesee and Oak Streets turned into a mix of retail and office space. CityView is teaming with the Wendt Foundation to revitalize the properties. For now, the buildings between Eddie Bra …

It's freaky seeing a cricketeer from Bangladesh wearing a New Era cap. Baseball will take over the Earth beginning with the cap. For now, though, the rest of the world is all hat and no game.

New Era is great for this area. I have worked with them a few times and the are always willing to help out in the community. We need to build off of them.

New Era is a cool company. But hasn't this been said, oh, maybe 568 times or so on this website? It reminds me of that scene in Tommy Boy where he is at dinner talking about what he does when he gets excited about getting close to a sale: he uses his dinner roll as a stand-in for his sale, and he proceeds to get so obsessively attentive and preening over the thing he literally rips his beloved sale (roll) to pieces out of excitement and anticipation. I sense some of that obsessive energy in Buffalo. [Insert story about Basher Issa here] Time to spotlight some other companies, people. Find an exciting young entrepreneur to highlight. Or better yet, have a business spotlight contest to talk up some great growing businesses in Buffalo. The only rules are: their main customer base/market must be national in scope. That would mean no neighborhood or regional establishments! (which would probably cut out most of what Buffalonians love to obsess about - local art, entertainment, restaurants, salons, bars, clothing, retail and similar)

Yippeeeeeeeee. they need a bigger retail store here in Buffalo as their headquarters, goodness. Every time I enter to get a hat, it's either packed, or I cant find the hat I want. They should expand a bit and put some of their "new" hats on the expanded shelve space. And with a growing company with their HQ here, shouldn't this store have the most selection and be the biggest? Like Macy's in NYC. Yea... And there is NO reason why that place shouldn't get TONS of buisness if they expand more, in fact it most likely will give them more revenue and buisness. So, that's my story.

AND that would actually give us something to talk about on Buffalo Rising, instead of going on and on about they same company over and over, at least if they expanded I could see the point, but this is just too repetitive, like the NFL CBS theme song. (which BTW, never gets old.) And thanks completelyoverplayed for your well thought out comment, it got me thinking too! =]
