New Era Celebrates One Year Downtown

It's been one year since New Era moved its headquarters back to downtown Buffalo. In that time we've seen an inspiring building facade added to the urban core, an influx of employees on Delaware, product launches, cool custom chopper displays... and of course plenty of shoppers walking about with the latest New Era products. Now New Era is hosting its One-Year Customer Appreciation Party. The event, scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 15th, is a way to show the company's continued dedication to the city. The New Era Buffalo Flagship store has organized the following events to take place on that day:

- On site Graffiti artists - 11am – 2pm: WGR 55 Live Remote and giveaways - Noon: Appearance by Sabretooth and Buster Bison - 2-4pm: Appearance by WGR 55 “Ball Girls” - 3-4pm: Rob Ray on site for autographs from 3-4 pm

I asked New Era's Tania Castillo about the some of the latest featured releases that will be available for purchase on that day. "We'll have the “AUD” and Buffalo-inspired caps... they are the adjustable style perfect for stocking stuffers. We just released a new product line of Buffalo and Sabres' related caps. The exclusive caps will be available to the public on that day. Fans can also check out the temporary Sabres Memorabilia Museum. The items in that display have been donated by a major collector who has reached out to us to display his extensive collection."

On site graffiti artists? Maybe "HERT ATACK" will have a stupid moment and accidentally show up and give away his/ her/ their identities and be quickly whisked away to a detention facility.

New Era is a great neighbor and I am not picking on them. The last thing I would normally want to do is rain on their parade. They have nice employees and great attitudes. It is a great pleasure having many of them as my personal friends. Glamorizing graffiti is not good public relations. Glamorizing any attitude or behavior that inhibits the forward movement of Buffalo is not good public relations in this, our new era of high hope and expectations for our city. However, I think inviting graffiti vandals is a good opportunity for the Buffalo Police graffiti task force to collect intel. I am also planning on attending so that I can drag their sorry asses over to my place to help me remove their art from my building.

I appeal to our good neighbors at New Era to reconsider promoting graffiti at their December 15th event -for the city’s sake as well as for their own public relations ramifications. Can you imagine the news stores that would result from this decision? All of the good that New Era Cap has done will be overlooked and the stories will all focus on the stupid graffiti promotion. They did the right thing when they cancelled their production of custom gang hats. Remember? I have to believe that New Era Cap will reconsider and wind up dropping the graffiti promotion from their event.

Thank you. This has been a public service announcement.

Guys, I doubt they mean CRIMINAL Graffiti artists...it's probably artists who are stylistically "graffiti" but who are actually given permission by the property owners.

I heard they didn't really want the graffiti guys but the homeless urinators were booked.

Just joking. Happy anniversary New Era.
