Need for speed in the Cobblestone District
There was a real need for speed down at the Cobblestone District earlier this afternoon. Enoch Pearson, Mac Norris and Byron Anderson spent the day testing out their remote controlled funny cars right outside the Savarino/Avalon loft development. The empty parking lot offers plenty of drag space for the weekend competitors who trick-out their cars in order to win the races. One small crack or pebble can send the four-wheelers end over end. Believe it or not, it's a technical hobby, which means that car owners must take into account wind draft, tire size, body weight, etc.
I arrived as the three were tweaking their cars and charging the batteries. These days there are DC chargers that the racers hook up to (real) car batteries in order to juice up the mini electric rides. And get this... these cars top out between 50 and 60 miles an hour! They burn the rubber of their tires just by gunning the remotes at the starting line. The wheels are called 'pizza cutters' because they are meant to shred the pavement (leaving only tiny skid marks) and b-line it for the finish line. The cars can also turn on a dime and have an incredible radio signal-transmitting radius. Cool hobby... cool guys... look for more Cobblestone racing to take place throughout the summer months.

It was the first time I ever sang my very personal song, “Who Wants To Cry At Christmas,” in front of the public. There were about 80 people gathered to hear me and my piano-playing friend Johnny Juarez present our “Chri …

Warren Buffett, the legendary investor and owner of our hometown Buffalo News, acknowledged the fate of newspapers in his 2006 shareholder letter when he wrote:
Nevertheless, this operation faces …
As you look outside your office window today, you're likely overtaken by the sheer beauty. Blowing snow. People hunched over, freezing, trying to walk into a 30MPH wind. You're probably reading from the script of American Beauty:
Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it... and my heart is going to cave in.
Or, maybe you're just thinking "Oh f#@!, I have to drive home in this s*$#."
Either way, we're here to lift your spirits.
