Melissa Kate ~ Blind Faith

Melissa studied Barbershop, Classical, Opera and Musical Theatre. She was trained classically by Mr. Robert Wells and studied with Mr. Amuso who provided her with the basics of Jazz. Melissa became engulfed in the NYC Jazz scene and has performed at the World Trade Center, Swing 46, Pops Is Tops, the American Lindy Hop Championships, and at Louie Armstrong’s house.
Melissa Kate is an international vocalist and began her artistic development with the award winning Taylor Made Jazz through Van Taylor Production. She is a powerhouse in Jazz, Blues, R&B and pop. Melissa now performs with The George Scott Big Band, travels internationally with Taylor Made Jazz, and has now come into her own with The Melissa Kate Project. Melissa has performed for the Armed Forces Entertainment, The Langston Hughes Institute, the M&T Plaza Concert series and the Buffalo Music Awards and continues to enlighten crowds internationally.
Melissa gives thanks to the musicians who have helped her artistically and support her such as: Van Taylor ~ keyboards/lyricist/production/manager ~ Walter Kemp III ~ keyboards ~ Jerry Livingston, Jerry Sampson and Richie Valentino on bass ~ Jeff Nixon, Ron Walker, David Comtois and Nelson Thomas on guitar ~ Will Holton on Sax ~ Mike Crimes and Tim Webb on percussion and Flick Williams ~ vocals/keyboards.
A jazzy blues backbeat is apparent on the title track, “Blind Faith.” Sultry vocals rise with percussion and bass keeping time behind her with the addition of horns. “Midnight Blue” is upbeat with traces of 80’s discotheque to get you up and dancing. Her lyrics are in depth, her presence shining and her vocal range is to be envied. Accompanied by The Melissa Kate Project, this CD is a must for all music aficionados.
Melissa Kate can be found at: www.melissakate.net and grab her solo debut at: www.cdbaby.com/cd/melissakate. I had the pleasure of experiencing Melissa Kate at the Tralf as a member of Taylor Made Jazz as she belted out vocals with a stage presence that invites you in like a warm embrace. Melissa is a positive light in this world and continues to support charitable causes. The George Scott Big Band with Melissa Kate will be at the Performing Arts High School on May 19th.
I suggest you do not miss this. She is a star, following shadows . . . trying to see her way to the light.

Celia White is a well-known Buffalo poet with one published book, six chapbooks, and for the past decade she has organized the Urban Epiphany poetry reading. She was this year's recipient of Artvoice’s Best of Buffalo Awards for Best Poet/Spoken Word Artist. Writing has always come naturally for White. “I’ve been writing since I was child--around age 11, I’d say,” says White. She has kept a journal since that age, and started writing fiction in college.

With the large Italian Festival going on, there is a certain Italian musician that can not be missed. Tony DiCorsi is an accomplished organetto player, otherwise known as a small Italian accordion, who performed at the festival on Friday and will again today at 5:00 on the main stage on Hertel near Colvin.
When Tony first walked into the Buffalo Philharmonic carrying his organetto, an accompanying musician said, "What the hell is he going to do with that little toy he is carryin …
After almost three years of anticipation, the wait is over. The Dark Knight (the second installment in Christopher Nolan’s hard, gritty, realistic re-boot to the Batman iconography) hits theaters today and the box office may not live to tell the tale. Heath Ledger, sadly, did not.
Director Nolan insisted on cramming as much of Ledger’s swan song of a rollercoaster tour de force of a performance as the Joker into the film as he could by way of obligation, and a cacophony o …
Ra’s Al Ghul has never been my favorite enemy in the Batman entourage. It always seemed like a cop out that they came up with a character, who just showed up hundreds of years old with a magical vat of life-juice (perfect for coming back from the dead with) and a built in army of lethal assassins. Yawn. I guess that falls under the precarious argument of suspension of disbelief in the comic realm (which should be sky high at all times but my b.s. meter goes off occasionally). …

Will somebody please help this person learn how to write?

If you have an issue with the way I write contact me. Keep it off of the review of the artist please. You must have something more productive to do than this.

You're absolutely right. I'd much rather attend this performance of The George Scott Big Band so I can witness "a Star, following shadows...trying to see her way to the light." (!)
