Manhattan's Pizza and Pasta

Manhattan's Pizza and Pasta

Story Options

If you're into New York style pizza and you've been complaining that there's no place to get it downtown, then you'll be happy to know that Manhattan's Pizza and Pasta is days away from opening. Restaurant owner, Besnik Dalsti, has been operating an eatery by the same name on Kenmore Avenue for the last seven and half years. "When we first opened on Kenmore Avenue there were not many pizza places around that area. Now I count around fourteen. Regardless, we're a very different pizza place, and if you like the thin pizzas served in huge pieces, then I think you'll like what we're doing here. Our pizzas are 22" around and sliced up into 8 pieces. On top of that we're going to have salads, subs, cold cuts and wraps."

Besnik and his family have spared no detail when it comes to their new home a couple doors from Chippewa on Delaware Avenue. "We've been working on this place for two months now. It was nothing when we first saw it. Now it has new floors, ceilings, walls, counters, bathrooms... everything is new. There is seating in the front by the counter, and then there is a dining room in back. Our customers from Kenmore Avenue keep on asking when we're going to be open... we're shooting for next Friday. We're going to be open for lunches and early dinners, but on Fridays and Saturdays we'll stay open late to catch the Chippewa traffic."

I must hand it to Besnik and his family - the former Red Room bar looks great. It's 2400sq' of shiny and clean, and somehow it has retained a cozy element as well. The sharp stainless fixtures in the front contrast nicely with the wood floors in the back. The space is not complete yet - the gang is now pulling long shifts to get it ready for the big opening. In the meantime, if you’re working downtown, you may want to take down the following number for take-out service.

Manhattan's Pizza and Pasta is located at 245 Delaware Avenue. Phone: 716-842-1986

Ya, Benfranklin the creator of the almanac and spelling guru will have something to say, but this place "ain't" no NY style pizza. I've been there a few times & blah! No blaaaaah! NY pizza on Allen, Zetti's or even Sbarro... way better.

Shebeen (Irish: sibin) illicit bar or pub. That is what this location was before it became "Redroom". If you were lucky enough to experience the Shebeen, then you know why I can't be too excited that a pie place is opening here. Oh well...progress???? For what it's worth(and yeah, I've eaten both,Vizzi's can't be beat)

One less bar in this area is probably a good thing- many of the bars off-Chippewa haven't fared well, or lasted very long. Perhaps another (small) sign of change along this stretch of Delaware.

Another Pizzeria! Brilliant!! Good luck - you will it. What's you key differenciator? New York Pizzeria on Allen already has NY style slabs, as well as Jamaican Beef Patties. He scrapes to get by...

And, FYI people - When Billy P and Joey T bought Shebeen and turned it into RedRoom, Croce saw the opp to take the Irish folks money. That's how Darcy's became. Billy and Joey later said in remorse that they should have kept that place the Shebeen. Those shots of Jamison really add up...

    Anyone wanna fight?

Man I miss Redroom! Chippewa is just not the same anymore. You used to have so many dance clubs with people everywhere. Now you just have a hand full of shitty bars that are all pretty much the same place. WTF happened to this street? Used to be that everyone from the burbs would come and pack all of these places because there was nothing like that out there. The downtown bars were different and therefore worth the trip. Now they are the same as the places in the burbs and no one wants to be bothered with the driving, parking and so on.

I'll give it a try. Zetti's, and the place in the Main Place Mall are the best NYC style pizza I've found so far. I'd love another option.

I foresee a long line of late night drunks with pepperoni grease dripping onto their Chip Strip evening wear.

Looking forward to it. Best of luck.

Crackhouse... foodcourt gourmet? The complete opposite my friend. My family has owned a pizzeria in one of the northern suburbs for the last 25 years and I grew up around the wonderful food, so I know a good pie when I see it! Anyways, I'm just messing around, I know there are some people that enjoy the NYC style, its just not for me.

Fair enough AMG. Talk to just about any Buffalo expat and they will tell you that Buffalo has the greatest za in the country (sans Chicago).
