Lu Lu's Custom Keds @ Firebrand

Have you seen the cool custom designed shoes at Firebrand yet? They're kinda hard to miss, especially if you're into the Bills and/or the Sabres... or Pabst Blue Ribbon maybe? Whatever turns you on, there is a shoe at Firebrand for you. That's because owner Jessica Incorvaia has teamed up with a co-worker by the name of Lu Lu, and the two are creatively satisfying customer's undying searches for one-of-a-kind shoes. Even if there are a couple of Sabres' fans walking around with matching shoes, there's no reason that you couldn't ask for the number of your favorite player to be added to the paint job. From Jessica:
"The person doing the shoes (Lu Lu) works right here in the store. We're doing custom orders for the shoes that are basically hand-painted. We've had custom requests for other things other than Bills and Sabres. The shoes are classic slip-on skate shoe. The paint was originally just a marker, though we're working on making them more long-lasting. Now that they are taking off we're making them with more of a spray paint. We've only made eight or nine pairs so far. They range in size from women's 6-10 and the pair sells for $35."
Firebrand is located at 715 Elmwood Avenue. 716-883-1871.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

The Sabres Organization stopped Wegmans from selling Sabres Cookies within two days last year, so I'm sure they will stop this quickly.

At the Keds website, for $50 a pair, there is a KEDS Studio click on. Its the neatest thing and can be done online!
It is about "creat(ing) your own custom Keds" using their Champion "blank" sneaker. "Create your own original, Choose your canvas. Pick your colors. Add you own graphics." (Catch words: "your own".
There is also the notation, Patent Pending for this Keds Studio idea. There does not appear to be any agreement to infringe on any other patented logos. The designs must be a purrchaser's personal own idea.
Is "Lu Lu's Custom Keds" a local and legal offshoot of this Keds idea? It doesn't sound that way. This article only sounds as if the shop owner and someone she knows feel they themselves dreamt this up.

Yeah, super cute and illegal! Too bad! I heard about the Wegmans/Sabres cookie incident too. You really have to be careful, especially when putting your business on the line. They usually just tell you to stop right away, though, and if you do, you should be okay!

my first thought as well: copyright infringement. I'm all for custom and creative but also, protect the right of the original designer. (I believe there's even a facebook group for that, Newell)
