http://archive.buffalorising.com/trend/archives/upload/2006/08/crozoo-thumb.jpg Those were the words I heard over and over again as I walked around CROZOO with my 2 boys (Alexander 13 and Austin 7). Crozoo is a recently opened pet store on Amherst Street, just down from Wegmans, in Buffalo. It's not one of those large we carry everything pet stores, but more like a mini version of the reptile house at the Buffalo Zoo, with a mammal or 2 thrown into the mix. Though even the mammals aren't your usual pet store cute and fuzzies. Owner John Crocitto has a NYS license for rescuing animals and among his acquisitions are an armadillo, an albino hedgehog and an Argentine Cavy, which looks like a cross between a small deer and a kangaroo, it's actually a large rodent from Patagonia.

http://archive.buffalorising.com/trend/archives/upload/2006/08/snake-thumb.jpg If you're squeamish about snakes and spiders and giant centipedes, you should wear blinders while visiting this awesome store, but, if like myself and my boys, you love animals that slither and crawl, this is the place to go. All of the animals that John sells are captive bred and captive raised which helps keep the wild ones in the wild. The excitement you hear in John's voice as he talks about his menagerie is contagious.. you just want to learn and hear more and more.

Luckily, John is happy to share his wealth of knowledge and he also offers live animal presentations. You can read about John's experience and the history behind CroZoo on their website at www.CroZoo.com, or even better you can look, hear and touch at CroZoo itself located at 497 Amherst Street between Elmwood and Grant. CroZoo is open Mon. - Sat. 10am-8pm and on Sun. from 10am - 6pm.

The pictures are John Crocitto with an albino Burmese python that was rescued and not for sale. With john holding the sign are my 2 boys Austin (8) and Alexander(14).

The place is very clean. It seems they take very good care of their animals. I just love it. There is soooo much to learn not only about the animals they have but also how to take care of any kind of animal!
