Locust Street Neighborhood Art Classes’ 47th Annual Art Show

Story Options

Talk about an institution! The Locust Street Neighborhood Art Classes is holding its 47th Annual Art Show, opening on Sunday, June 3, from 2-5 PM.

This year’s exhibit will feature the year’s most significant accomplishment(s) from each regularly attending student, as well as a mural done with “There’s None Like You” Family Outreach, and photos of the tile installation at Futures Academy. You’ll also be able to view Public Art Planting Tires done with Daemen College’s after school program “the Friday Thang”, a great way to both get rid of waste and add a touch of color to a neighborhood garden.

There will also be a showing of the work of Squeaky Wheel’s “ TechArts for Girls”, which is a community action project begun to encourage girls from Buffalo and Erie County to learn about computers. Girls work with media professionals for whom computers are an integral tool, are taught exciting .computer programs by Squeaky Wheel, and then create group and individual artwork, self-portraits and audio projects.

On the social side of the event, music will be provided on Sunday by “DJ Poppa”, and chicken dinners will be on sale Sunday as well. The exhibition may also be seen on Tuesday, June 5, from noon until 6 PM, and will then be on display all year. Started in 1959 at the direct request of children in the Fruit Belt neighborhood, Locust Street Art is the Buffalo area’s sole source of professionally taught, tuition-free, ongoing instruction in the Visual Arts of Painting, Drawing, Clay, & Photography for ages 4 through senior adult. Over 250 children, teens, and adults attend each year. Invitation Drawing By: Garry Collins
