LOCAL HEROES
Elmwood area business owners are a really courageous bunch!
I happened to be in the Bidwell/ Elmwood/ Potomac area todayOe.you know, the corner where the bank machine is. I needed to stop into that cute NEW store, Sweet & Dirty, for some info from its owner, Erin Habes. S & D shares a stairway to another great store, Sunday Skate, so as you go to one, you can check out the other. It reminds me of Smith St in Brooklyn.
As I was leaving, she said that she had her first iSHOPLIFTERi experience.
That really made me mad.
She told me this incredible story of a irespectable looking woman of a certain agei who happened up the stairs yesterday & into her store. No problem, the woman cruised the racks as Erin worked with another customer. The RLWCA left the store as did the first. JP, owner of Sunday Skate, stuck his head in the door & said, iyou know, Iive caught that woman shoplifting before!i
Sure enough, Erin looked at the shirt that ihappenedi to fall off the hanger to the RLWCAis feet and there was the hanger but the SHIRT WAS GONE!
She took off after the woman, JP & and a skateboarder followed close behind. She demanded that the RLWCA open her purse and there it wasOeOe neatly folded!
How courageous!
And how wonderful is the camaraderie between these two great business owners!?!
How much does it piss you off that someone would steal from a brand new business? Forget brand newOefrom ANY business! Thatis wrong.
The Elmwood business owners plant, they sweep, they shovel & salt, they paintOe..most take such pride in their respective front footage. And they look out for each other.
I also love the idea of this twisted women being surrounded by board kids & business owners. The skateboarders usually get a bad rap, but I have to say that when some one needed to do the right thing, they did!
Good job, you guys! And thanks.

The fact that she was so recognizable to JP, who has worked retail on the strip for years, really annoyed me.

Debbie Sidel opened the door of Half & Half Trading Co. at the age of 22. Now, even after 35 years of business, Debbie has not lost an ounce of enthusiasm for her role as owner of the little boutique.
Debbie has dressed generations of women in Buffalo. “Sometimes three different generations of women will walk in, a girl, her mother, and the grandmother, and they can all find something they like!” Debbie said. “I started out dressing college kids, then, as they grew up, …
This Friday and Saturday marks the fifth annual World on your Plate (WOYP). The event has just a few goals that it tries to spread: restoring the earth by promoting sustainability for all, advancing education and action on food issues, and to create a table where all are welcome. WOYP will try to further those goals this weekend as it brings a film, keynote speaker, and workshops to the area.
Starting on Friday, WOYP will be screening “King Corn.” The movie documents the trip …
A visitation of 150 decidedly non-ghostly spirits was recorded at the Buffalo Central Terminal Sunday, perhaps mysteriously drawn by the Terminal’s recent “Ghost Hunter” notoriety. Although it hasn’t served rail passengers in several decades, the Terminal is far from dead, as this tour revealed. And although the Terminal’s epitaph was written by the Buffalo News in the 1990’s, it was thankfully rescued from the grave by the fine folks of the Central Terminal Restora …
A large chunk of Buffalo’s industrial past has a new owner. East Delevan Property LLC, a subsidiary of Ontario Specialty Contracting, purchased the empty, 1.275 million sq.ft. American Axle plant located at 1001 E. Delevan Avenue near Bailey Avenue. Buffalo-based Ontario Specialty Contracting paid $1.26 million for the property. According to City tax records, the property was assessed at slightly over $2.9 million.

Sweet & Dirty is like the BEST STORE EVER. Seriously. They have some of the most unique clothes available in Buffalo. It's really terrible that somebody tried to shoplift from them. Especially since it's a new business.

To me, this is related to the post about the "tagging"
situation in the "city" channel.
What's up that people think that they can abuse
store owners like this? There's right & there's wrong.....
this is wrong!
