Lightmakers
iBuffalo has begun looking more to a modern style,i says Sionen Laciura, half of the husband and wife team that owns Lightmakers. She sees a lot of people moving back after living in places like New York City, San Francisco, and Seattle. iThey want to live in Buffalo because it has more of a community feel but they desire the style of these cities.i
To accommodate this interest, Lightmakers now carries eight lines of furniture from designers all over the world. Examples include the iOceani line of cabinets by Dutch manufacturer, Danform. With maple or cherry veneer and sensuously curved front panels the style is original and luxurious. Contrast that with the iBig Arm Chairi, an eclectic piece by the hot Japanese design couple of Shin and Tomoko Azumi. This comfortable chair has a revolving base that allows its oversized arms to be used as a workspace. Most recently, Lightmakers began carrying pieces by Blu Dot, an American company that manufacturers furniture based on the 60is Danish Design movement.
In addition to furniture, Lightmakers now carries home accessories like vases, glassware and placemats. Despite these new additions, lighting remains their focus and passion.

Builder's have been feeling the pain of a less than par economy in the Buffalo area for some time.
However, the extent of their problems has not been crystal clear until a recent article in the National Bureau of Economic Research Paper. In comparing housing construction costs to the average sale prices of homes, it was surprising to learn that in Detroit, Fort Wayne, and Pittsburgh you can buy an existing house for 30 to 40% less than it costs to build it. Even more surprising …
