Lexington/Ashland - The Place to be

I guess that the third time really is the charm. After hearing rumors upon rumors over the last couple of years (and writing about the pending opening twice), The Place is finally set to reopen. It was scheduled to open by January 15th... I had almost given up hope that the Lexington/Ashland restaurant icon would ever come back, when a friend told me that they had seen a ‘Coming Soon’ banner appear. We checked online and discovered that The Place was also seeking a wait staff. Finally the wait is over and Buffalo will once again have one of its favorite haunts back in business. We wish you luck Kenny!
Sushi lovers will also be happy to hear the Kuni Sato has decided to expand his operation across the street. At some point down the road he will be blowing out the rear wall (leading into the kitchen) in order to incorporate seating into his layout. Up until now Kuni’s To Go has been an excellent take-out operation – I think the neighborhood will certainly benefit from the expanded sit-down option. Kuni is no rush to move forward with the remodeling, but between The Place reopening and the future expansion of Kuni’s, this little corner should prove to be quite the hotspot again.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

I remember gorging on their famous home fries as a very little kid, God the crap our parentls let us eat just for a little peace and quiet... But they still hold the "home fry gold standard" in my book!

Good to see this place (ha!) is finally opening up again. I lived in the hole across the street and couldn't even begin to tell you how many parking tickets I got from parking in that lot.
I feel bad for everyone who still lives in that area. If this place is remotely busy for dinner time, parking will be even more atrocious than it was before.

Just to back this up, I was reading the Buffalo Rocket, the small North Buffalo paper, and in the classifieds was a help wanted ad for restaurant staff for The Place.

Why is anyone holding their breath for this when there are a ton of great restaraunts already open.. I really think we need to support the already struggling great restaraunts in Buffalo. This "place" will open and in turn cause two other restaraunts to close, we need more jobs instead of new restaraunts.

So stop all restaurant openings until Buffalo has more jobs?

O yea i need to add that this picture makes the place look like a hole in the wall "queenseyes...is that a bench in the front? .. you would believe by reading this article thats this is going to be something beautiful inside and out... this picture speaks volumes for the restaraunt...ahah

The listing was on craigslist. And yes, it is a bench. The Place is one of those non-descript restaurants for sure. The following is incredible though. The inside is beautiful if you're into old pubs that haven't changed a lick for many years. It does sound as if they spruced the place up though... we'll see.

Well thanks for all the nice comments, minus gdf81 who just sounds like an old codger, i'm not gonna trash someone who is just uninformed of this "causing" other restaurants to close.....we have been here since 1941 family owned and operated. That picture btw is of probably the worst looking spot of our building lol.
I know this is uber late but I get a few comments here and there from people that have been using buffalo rising (the guy who runs it comes in quite frequently.... if i'm thinking of the right person long blonde hair)
Love,
Ken jr.
