Hotel Lenox Scores A New Marquee

Isn't it refreshing seeing the brand new front marquee (edited) at the Hotel Lenox? Gone is the broken, partially lit black and white marquis that haunted The Lenox for so many years. This latest addition to the building certainly livens up that building, and adds a bit of class to the entranceway. The Lenox has been going through a series of improvements, this being just one of them (see others). Here's a comment from the August '07 post left by Bizzles:
"I have two family members who now reside in the building and as such I am there quite often. The change in the building since Tony (Trusso) took ownership has been remarkable. The entire building is essentially being redone in phases, and the improvements are not cheap quick fixes; they are substantial investments...
"The continued investment I've seen in the building has caused me to take a serious look at getting an apartment there, as right now it stands as a real bargain. When your landlord starts making cosmetic improvements to the property that are functionally unnecessary but serve to beautify your building then you generally know your renting from someone who truly cares about the property and their renters. I think the community should fully support what's going on in the Lenox, especially considering the bleak future it seemed to have just a few years ago. Here's looking forward to the new marquee!"
And not only has the new marquee arrived, North Restaurant has re-opened its doors and is functioning once more. I am told that the bar/restaurant opens at 4pm. The re-opening coincides perfectly with the beginning of the Sabres' season.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

It's section 8 housing.

It s far from Section 8 housing. I would say from my expierience visiting there that at least half of the tenent base are college students and young professionals. While there are also Section 8 residents in the building, they were most likely living there before the current owner acquired the building. You can't just kick these people out. I would say the quality of the Lennox is at least on par with the Kissling Interests building I currently live in.

It's mostly residential, but I also believe that there is a long-term stay component as well.

lol I kinda miss the old marquee in way, mainly because the one side had certain letters burned out so that it read "hot nox". That became my nickname for the building. The new signage looks great though; very classy.
The only thing I'm dissapointed with is that they put carpeting down when the renovated the lobby (which looks great btw). I think the original plan was to restore the beautiful terrazo (sp?) tile, but from what I saw when the exposed it after tearing out the old carpet that probably would've been a next to impossible task.
Anyway, cheers to all of the owners and investors who continue to invest in Allentown. There's still a lot of work to be done, but we're slowly making progress.

I actually got a chance to stop in at North last night and I dig it. A nice little out of the way restaurant/bar. we only stopped for drinks but cant wait to try the grub. Nice addition to the area. Kudos.

It IS kind of a shame that they (I assume) did away with the vintage design of the rooms.

I thought they were doing a restoration...back to 1900 details?
If they were going to replace the marquis then why not replicate the original marquis?
Your applauding something that I think is actually a loss for Buffalo and the surrounding community because this marquis does not live up to the potential of the building.

The Lenox is a combination of residential and hotel rooms. A considerable number of the residents are professionals, and not just young professionals. The clientele has improved immensely since Tony acquired the property.
@Buffalo21stcentury, calling the improvements to the Lenox a loss for Buffalo has to be one of the most baseless comments imaginable. In light of the progress made, both physically and demographically, you should be congratulating Mr. Trusso. The potential of any building is proportional to the investment the owner makes and the investment here has been considerable. If you feel the potential is higher, buy the place and go to town with it.

When and Why did North close?

I don't think praise is in order for the owner of the Lenox. Having been a frequent visitor to the North, I must say that the changes in personel and decor have gone way south since they lost Sam the manager (and his staff) Why on earth was the North closed for months? Poor ownership. They had a scrawled sign that said "Closed for renovations" - but when it finally re-opened the changes were hardly noticable. Please don't waste your time with the menu either- it's also been so watered down with "bar food" that you can't get a real meal there. You are much better off walking a half a block further to Amaryllis where the decor, service and food is exceptional.

Dear God, save yourself a trip to the hospital and avoid eating anything at this restaurant. If you're just looking for a drink I would suggest that you bring along a pocket-sized hand sanitizer to wipe your glass down first.

The marquis is hiding behind the invisible pillars holding up that overextended canopy. Scary!
