Learn, Shop and Support Local Women-owned Businesses

From belly dance instruction to custom-designed jewelry, local women-owned businesses will promote products and services at the upcoming Ladies Night Out Expo. The event will take place on October 10th at 8 p.m. at Buffalo’s Finest Bar, located at 2163 Seneca Street in South Buffalo. This event offers a unique chance to learn, shop and support small women-owned businesses in Western New York.
The night will feature music, entertainment, cocktails, and a great chance to network while learning about local businesses and shops and the women who run them. Tickets are available in advance for $20 at Chique Boutique located at 1069 Abbott Road or the Caz Coffee Café at 688 Abbott Road. Tickets will be available at the door for $25.
“More and more, people are looking for opportunities to support local business owners. The event is intended to draw women who want to have a fun evening with their friends while learning about local places to shop,” said Eva-Marie, Edukonis, event organizer. “The upcoming “Ladies Night Out Expo” celebrates businesses right here in our community.”

Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.

Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

Closing this week on my little piece of South Buffalo and this sounds like fun! Perfect timing! Nice to know there's a cafe right around the corner. I'm new to South Buffalo and unfamiliar with what's around other than the Basilica and the Botanical Gardens, etc., so this is a great opportunity to see what the area has to offer! Grew up north of the city and hope South Buffalo is every bit the nice place I've always felt it to be. I'm looking forward to the move and learning more about the area.

If you're in the vicinity of the Botantical Gardens, check out Curly's restaurant on Ridge Rd. It has a long history in the neighborhood, but a modern menu.
