The Chris Jacobs Podcast The Times reports that In an announcement expected today from the Republican state convention in Hempstead, William Weld will name Chris Jacobs, the recently appointed Secretary of State, as his running mate in his race for the Republican nomination for governor against John Faso.

I thought it might be valuable to hear what Jacobs has to say about statewide issues and how he views the specific concerns of Buffalo in that larger context. This is an interview from Chris' run for State Senate.

This is excellent news for Buffalo and NYS!

Chris is known locally as one who is fastidious with crossing "t's" and dotting "i's"....

I'm looking forward to working on campaign!

And I look forward to seeing the campaign. AS LONG AS: It is focused on what is right with your candidate, instead of what is wrong with the opponent. It has a specific agenda, as opposed to vague, feel good statements. Give us that, and your chances are good. From what I've seen, at least this slate has a record we can look at.

Wonderful news indeed... Well heeled and financed entrepreneur businessman with great credentials gets on a statewide ticket, and come November won't draw more than a few flies.

Why? Because we're all for "bringing passion back to Albany"..Eliot Spitzer's booming voice commercials, and more of the putrid stench of the three men in the room.., Bruno, Silver and our latest Gov continuing to pat themselves on the back for their fine work while the State burns. Like lemmings we will all run to the polls and re-elect the morons who have been the architects of our misery for as along as I have been alive.

At least we'll have Jacobs back here doing what he does best... rebuilding our downtown core building by building. You go Chris!

We don't need passion in Albany, we need some common sense there, and politicians who don't think the state is their own little fiefdom!

This man has aligned with a party that has done the state no good during the current governor's tenure, a party that thwarts the full rights of gay people to marry, a party that supports a destructive war that has killed thousands of innocent people. I'm supposed to be happy about this? He is active in downtown development --that's nice, and he has plenty of company. But to seek the power and support of a corrupt Republican party without spelling out all his principles and views is not enough for me, Sorry, but I'd like to see more independence of mind.

Eliot Spitzer had me at "it's only 2002, i may run in 2006"...look for a giant statue of him to be erected on the roof of my downtown apartment.

I'll look at the candidate and his stand on issues that I feel are important first. Then I will look at the party. Past performance is important. I can't automatically count out a candidate just because of party affiliation. Weld is not Pataki. Governors have little say in the war. I think Spitzer was a good AG. Let's see what they say they will do as Governor.

I agree Paul...to an extent. But you know how party politics work---there's a lot of money and influence at stake, and I just cannot support someone who takes money, clout, and favors from a party that has dome so much damage to the country and that willfully tries to keep gay families in the back seat. So, let Mr. Jacobs take a stand on this and other issues, and let's see how independent his thinking is. The problem is.....no matter what he thinks personally, he will be tied to a party that will expect some degree of conformity. The same problem that afflicts Democratic reformers.

The conformity is the sad thing. People who want to think and act outside the box are too often confined to it by those who finance them.

This guy actually was a Democrat for a couple years and then he switched affiliation back to Republican. If he continues to living in the city, he will NEVER get elected to anything as a Republican. I know, San Filippo is Republican but that was a very unusal election vs. Pitts.

Probably elected politics is not his main priority. He seems very successful as a developer. I'd like to see him elected to the Buffalo school board, since he's so pro-charter. The currect board has been moving away from charter schools and I think that's a huge mistake.

At governor level, Spitzer will win huge but I'm happy Faso will at least provide a real option for those of us who favor serious spending cuts and tax cuts. Weld has not impressed me at all. Spitzer will keep NY in 1st place of per-capita taxation for this whole 4, 8, or 12 year reign just as Pataki did.
