Kick Off Friday Night With BRO @ Fat Bob's

This Friday Fat Bob's smokehouse has been kind enough to offer Buffalo Rising Online (BRO) viewers a 'Thank You' happy hour. It was their idea to get some people together in person who might only communicate on comment threads. Come as your sign-on name... come as a fly-on-the-wall... come in and ask, "What is all this?” It doesn't matter to us, since the get-together is merely to have a beer and talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly about Buffalo. There will be no nametags, there will be no speeches, heck, there might not be anyone at all. We're just hoping that a few people show up at 6:00pm on Friday October 5th for one full hour of free Molson and Coors tap beer (sorry Labatt and FB, that's what they offered). There will also be a free spread of food to last the duration (whatever that may be), $2-drink specials, with Kate and Super Dave behind the bar.
Whether you just moved here or you show up wearing your Bethlehem Steel jacket, the offer is on. I just checked the BRO calendar (thanks (Olga) and there are a ton of events happening that night... so if you're looking for fuel, then, as Micky Rourke aka Henry Chinaski would say (in Barfly), "Drinks for all my friends". Then head out and enjoy the Buffalo First Member Meet and Greet, Pecha Kucha Night, Gusto at the Gallery, and a ton of live music and theatre... take your pick.
Like I said, this is just an open invitation to hang out at Fat Bob's with a bunch of other people who have an opinion about Buffalo. Very casual, super laid back, and if you want to introduce yourself as your sign-on, then fine. If not, you could just as easily say that you never heard of Buffalo Rising and just walked in to have a beer the bar. Even if you don't post or comment, the invitation is for you. And it's still free!

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

What a great idea. There certainly a number of hot issues on the streets of our city and it will be interesting to see if people are willing to stand behind what they post anonymously and contribute to productive bar-chatter. I love FAT BOB's!
