Keep Your Eyes Open For Murals

Erik Minter will be painting 1105 Broadway and will begin on May 24th. Moore says, “It’s called “B-lo Looks Up.”” Moore explains that it will feature architecture, famous Buffalonians, wind turbines, and Sheas, with the premise being where Buffalo is going. Francsico Amaya will be painting the Duch Builder with a theme of Buffalo hunting and historic Buffalo.
Catherine Parker will be the painter of the Broadway Market and people from the city will actually get to help. BMAP will be hosting a summer picnic/fundraiser at the market on June 28th from 1-5pm. At the fundraiser, which will feature food, auctions, games, a glass demonstration, and sculpture, people will also have a chance to paint on a tile. Parker’s design is “Faces of Buffalo” and people will be able to paint an image of the country of their origin or a painted face to show the many faces of Buffalo.
These are just the sites that have chosen artists to paint them. Moore says, “We have a few others, but the artists haven’t been chosen yet.” Some of those sites include the Duffy Silk Company building at 1270 Broadway and the Cohen Bakery at 1132 Broadway. Moore decides the artists for the sites with her board members. She says, “We kind of decide the preliminary designs and then we take it to the community.”
From there, the community can help tweak the design so that they get a mural they want for their neighborhood. The murals being painted are not the only good BMAP does for an area. Moore says, “We’re cultivating gardens and green places [as well].” For the last two weeks, BMAP has planted or replanted trees and cleaned up the areas around the sites to be painted.

Few private citizens can claim awareness of the growing pet population like Robin Johnson can. Johnson owns and operates Vilardo Printing at 326 Connecticut Street and since she took over the business in 2001, she has started rescuing stray and abandoned cats. For Johnson, it started out as one cat, but then it became two, then four, and well, as Johnson puts it, “you know how it goes. There were always cats around the city and when you take in one cat, you always have a gazilli …
Work started on returning two-way traffic to Main Street's 700 block on Monday. Yesterday, Avalon Development made a strategic purchase on the same block where it has been working since 2001. The development company headed by Chris Jacobs acquired 715 Main Street at the northeast corner of Tupper. The highly-visible building contains 6,110 sq.ft. of space with coveted rear parking along Washington Street. Plans for the building are not known.
If you're into science and you're looking to support the Museum of Science, then you don't want to miss this awesome event. Actually, the Museum of Science has been hosting a series of unique gatherings in recent years, but it is the Museum's Attic that actually gets you into places that not many people will ever get the chance to see. The museum's collection is so vast, that at any given time there is a fraction of items showing to the public. Even when exhibits rotate, that only …
Now we're talking... this Sunday (2pm-5pm), 250 incoming Medaille freshman are going to be heading down to the Commercial Slip. It's a joint effort between Medaille College and the Buffalo Tours program. Hopefully this trip will be just one of the many waterfront excursions that these students take during their time spent at the college. Not only will the students learn about the waterfront and the surrounding architecture, they will also be shown where they can catch the Metro Ra …
