Jambalaya Jazz All Stars at Sportsmen’s Park September 18

Story Options

Sportsmen’s Tavern impresario Dwane Hall (who, by the way has been keeping the music alive several nights and days per week for an amazing number of years) continues his outdoor concert series in Musicians Park just behind the Tavern, with a concert starring the Jambalaya All-Star Jazz Band on September 18 from 7:30 to 9:00 PM.

Led by a brass section of Phil Nyhuis (author and musician extraordinaire) and Ray Skalski, this one-time-only Jambalaya incarnation also features longtime Barroom Buzzards stalwarts Paul Preston on reeds and Richard Hull on bass and tuba.

Other special guests artists include veteran Buffalo drummer John Bacon and pianist and trumpeter Jon Seiger, who has toured the world with his remarkable tributes to Louis Armstrong and Cab Calloway.

The band will rock Black Rock with a selection of Trad and Swing standards as well as a few musical surprises. This is a tobacco-and-alcohol-free venue, so bring the whole family for an exciting evening of traditional jazz. This smoke-free and alcohol-free concert is sponsored by The Erie-Niagara Tobacco-Free Coalition.

This band is amazing. I saw them this past spring. Don't miss this event. Black Rock comes alive on the 18th. Wow, a rare opportunity to see the areas finest musicians in a smoke & alcohol free venue. The Sportsmen's is Buffalo's best music venue & Duane's new Muscian's Park, an outdoor concert hall, is a fun place to see music. Yes, dancing is always allowed...! Really looking forward to this special event. Phil Nyhuis is Buffalo's best trumpet player and Ray Skalski, on trombone reminds me of the legendary Jack Teagarten. I hope to see the Whitney folks there !!!
