Comfort Zone Café Opens On Elmwood

I'm already comforted to know that a new coffee shop opened yesterday on Elmwood (see original post). Not because I need more coffee... it's more about a business coming onto the street and occupying a space that has been empty for many years. I must say that I didn't realize how much of a dead spot that storefront actually was until the café opened. Now the fabric awning is up, the lights are on and there are people in the window. What a difference.

The interior reminds me of the type of café one might find in a college town. And since Buffalo is considered a college town by many, the business should thrive. It's not crunchy like many college café scenes - the inside is fairly sparse with exposed an exposed HVAC system. The lighting is really well done too. There are no dominant light sources. Rather you will find lit food displays, backlighting, low-light overheads... very appealing for a village café. I took a look at the menu, which boast a ton of hot and cold drinks along with a variety of bagels. Yeah, they have bagels, which can be hard to come across since the closing of the Elmwood Village Bagel Shop. There is a breakfast menu and a lunch menu... the only thing that they appear to be missing is bubble tea. Oh well, my quest for bubble tea in the city continues.

Comfort Zone Café is located at 1002 Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo. 716.881.1057

Very excited about Comfort Zone. They are very different from the other coffee-shops on Elmwood. They are very breakfast oriented - they sell Oatmeal! Where else can you go out to get oatmeal? This should be a nice boost in foot traffic for the neighboring businesses as well.

On a semi-related note.... Is there a place in the city besides the Towne to get coffee after midnight on the week-end? After seeing Jeff Dunham at Sheas a few weeks back, our group wanted to go for coffee, and found that Spot on the corner of Delaware & Chippewa was closed already....on a Friday night! We weren't sure where else we could head for a cup of joe at that time of night....we weren't really into checking out the clubs.

In our defense, I have to note that offering hours here is often a bad idea. Many businesses, especially new ones, adjust their hours. Sometimes they do it a lot. BR is often the only place that local businesses can be found online; we get comments on stories that are sometimes two years old. Having the wrong business hours hanging around in cyberspace is bad news. Ask anyone that has experienced showing up at a restaurant only to find that they were closed. We suggest instead that you call ahead.

    I want Bubble Tea too!!!!!

I hate schlepping to Sheridan when I need a fix. It's not even that good out there either.

Christa, thanks for responding, and i get your point on the hours of operation, but a link to the website (when available) would be more beneficial than the phone number.

I agree about thirsting for late coffee or tea. There are so few coffee places in the city. Spot is hopeless...I wish this place success, but still long for a really atmospheric cafe with late hours...so hard to find anywhere.

I hear ya EricOak..... this town is really in need of another Stimulance. In it's glory, there was no place like it. Gritty and full atmosphere. Like your favorite dive bar, but switch the beer for coffee and muffins. Damn. Haven't thought about that place in a while. What ever happened I wonder? Who the hell owned that place?

Glad to see them come here --- I remember when they opened the new one in Hamburg years ago when I worked at a hotel in Hamburg and how busy they got over the years...
