iBring the Little Monsters to Elmwoodi
iBring the little Monsters to Elmwoodi was the theme of this years 'Safe Trick or Treat', but it seemed as though there were far more Disney Princesses and Spider Man costumes than anything. It could not have been a more perfect day for this event in Buffalo. It was as sunny as Southern California and a busy as a Manhattan rush hour. It was a very warm 60 degrees, which is hot for Buffalo in October, and the leaves on the trees were just starting to change color for autumn. Elmwood Avenue was alive and bristling with families walking their small children to the businesses on the street to collect their treats (or Tricks!).
Everything about this day was as magical as Halloween should be for small children. The day included hundreds of people, sunshine, candy, glitter, happy parents, laughing kids, their friends, candy and more candy! What more could make for a better lifelong memory to carry around?
There were an astonishing 65 small businesses that participated in this event and each of the 65 business owners were exceptionally gracious while having several hundred people through their shops. In return, many of families expressed their appreciation to be a part of this wonderful event.
When was the last time a chain store gave away several hundred pieces of candy to your neighborhood kids for Halloween?
This is the type of event that neighborhoods and communities are built around. How wonderful to be able to bring people together for a few hours to be happy and share a magical moment in time with their children. -Lacy @ Diggin It!
This event was organized by Lacy Abbott, owner of Diggini it! (Garden Shop). The Treehouse (Toy Store) donated 260 balloons to designate the 'Trick or Treat' stops. Ruby Slipper and The Treehouse offered 'Trick or Treat' bags to those who may have forgotten them. This year's theme and poster design was created by Paragon Advertising.
For those who may have missed this event - it was truly another wonderfully magical day here in Buffalo.....BOO!

In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …
