Help Buffalo Claim What is Rightfully Ours

Although the Polish Harvest Festival is not for a couple of weeks (more to come), start breaking out those pierogi recipes now. Help Corpus Christi Church reclaim Buffalo's rightful title as "Capital of the Pierogy Pocket of America" in a contest sponsered by Mrs. T's Pierogies.
The church invites the public to participate in this challenge by submitting their best homemade pierogi for a taste test. The taste testing will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 5:30 PM. during the festival. The three catergories that participants will be judge on include: traditional (potato, cheese or sauerkraunt), dessert and non-traditional. In order to keep an even playing field for all contestants, Corpus Christi Church requests that only amatuer cooks participate. (No restaurants or commerical vendors.) Winners will be determined by a panel of local celebrity judges and will receive the title of "Buffalo's Best Homemade Pierogi Maker 2008" and a $50 gift certificate to the Broadway market.
All visitors to the Polish Harvest Festival are also invited to sign a petition supporting Corpus Christi's bid on behalf of Buffalo for the honor of the "Capital of the Pierogy Pocket". This petition, along with a video of the taste test, will be submitted to Mrs. T's. Last year, Corpus Christi was selected as one of the five semi-finalists in the competition, but the title ultimately went to Binghaminton, New York. Let's get our title back!
Individuals interested in proving their pierogi prowess must register in advance by calling the parish at 716.896.1050 or visiting their website at www.corpuschristibuffalo.org.

Ever since the Falafel Bar opened on Allen Street, it was only a matter of time before the Elmwood location was no longer for this world. I spoke to owner, Oded Rauvenpoor, who told me that the decision to close came when he was at a crossroads. He found himself happy with his Allentown diggs, but began eying another part of the city for the Elmwood restaurant. In the end, Oded decided that he wanted to try his hand in the University District (3476 Main Street). I guess there was …
Now that it has passed, the question is how does the “Bicycle Commuter Tax Act” affect me as an employer or employee on a daily basis.
During a time where healthy, environmentally sustainable and community friendly transportation options are more and more looked at as an effective way to encourage energy efficiency, to improve public health, to prevent congestion, to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and to improve community livability and safety, this is an essential step …

I hate to say it, but I think that Pittsburgh should be Pierogi Capital of the US. They have Pierogi Pizza at the Church Brew Works & Restaurant (which is surprisingly good) and the chain Rosie's Peirogi's. They also have a Pierogi race at the Pirates game. How can Buffalo compare?

This is worthy of an article? Yeah, Buffalo is one of the fastest dying cities but damn it we're the pierogi capital. Jesus Christ...

Yes, let's see nothing but articles that reiterate some inane thing that a worthless rag of a magazine said about us!

How did something that wasn't about Elmwood, or fawning about everything that's perfect about Elmwood, make onto Buffalo Rising?

Correction, Rosie's Pierogis is not a chain, there is only one location.
I'm pretty sure the "Capital of the Pierogy Pocket of America" contest is an online vote.
"Mrs. T’s Pierogies invites all eligible cities and towns to compete for the title of Capital of the Pierogy Pocket. This year, Mrs. T’s will also recognize the pierogy-impassioned citizens outside the Pierogy Pocket by conducting a search for the Sister City of the Capital of the Pierogy Pocket. "
