Hard Knocks for Hard Times

Story Options

http://archive.buffalorising.com/yum/archives/upload/2006/08/joeys_hardtimes-thumb.jpg Joey's Hard Times has seen better days in Allentown. The short-lived restaurant recently closed its doors for good. I spoke to Mark Goldman today who admitted that the restaurant's size was too small for even an Italian joint. That and the fact that Joey was tired. But where one door closes another is sure to open. Mark is hashing out plans with another successful restaurant owner to open what could be considered a no-brainer for Allen Street.

Look for this new eatery to cater to a more health conscious crowd. Mark is also planning on utilizing the take-out aspect of the restaurant to his advantage. The renovation to the interior was the hard part... now finding the right combination of food/s is all that remains. Negotiations are well under way and hopefully an announcement will be made shortly. If the partnership works it will be a great addition to the street.

Just when I was almost free to visit, numbers do count unfortunately. Joe is a good person, talented musician, and good cook. Joe is a walking legend he will bounce back with another interesting adventure.

Boo. Loved that place. We've been "selling" it to everyone we know lately. Guess we should have paid attention to why it was closed the last few times we tried to visit, eh? Thanks for the memories, though. Great while it lasted.
