Sometimes timing can be everything. I happened to snap a photo of this unusual looking storefront this morning... only to receive an email an hour later telling us that a new gallery was going to open in the University District (3216 Main Street). The cool looking backwards question mark (profile) had caught my eye... and speaking of eyes, there were small peepholes cut out so passersby could take a look inside. Here's the email from Beth Hintermeier (the attached poster can be seen to the left of the storefront:

I know this is crazy short notice, today and tomorrow is our art gallery showing. There are six artists total showing everything from paintings, sculpture, installation, masks to jewelry. I must warn you, some the artwork is transcendent in quality, and a bit idiosyncratic. If you are enchanted with exotic works of art, then I can promise you that this is unlike anything you have seen before. Whether you love it or hate it, artistic expression ALWAYS creates an excellent topic of discussion.

The gallery is free of charge to visit. There will be beverages and hors d'oeuvre served. Gallery hours are 7PM - midnight. Stop in, even if for a short visit. Your support of this NEW gallery is most important, and is more than appreciated.

Friday November 30th - Saturday December 1st

A new gallery. Excellent! Could be a good night for a little Ming, followed by a little wackiness.

It's too bad that Buffalo doesn't have a more unified gallery scene. When I lived in Maine, every month they had an event called "First Friday". Most places opened new shows that night, and most venues served snacks and beer/wine. Even in the darkest, colder months, it was something to look forward to, and force yourself out of the house. It was a very social way to kick off the weekend. Walking around, meeting old friends and making new ones, catching a gentle wine buzz, seeing inspirational work. It was a good time.

I'm going to this... one of the artists involved is also my tattoo artist (from Renaissance just across the street)
