GGB Gets Grant, Shares Wealth In Weenies

“That grant was for material support for the gardens,” says Lavatelli. That includes buying produce plants for vegetables. “Growing food is just a huge empowerment for our gardens,” says Lavatelli.
The HSBC in the Community (USA) Inc. foundation supports education and environmental projects that improve the quality of life, making the GGB a perfect partner. The GGB helps empower neighborhoods and gardeners throughout Buffalo by helping to build a sense of community while beautifying many areas decimated with blight and vacant lots.
The check will be presented on May 14th at one of GGB’s “Weenie Wednesdays.” This will be the first in a series of free barbecues that take place at the over 35 gardens GGB maintains throughout Buffalo. The weenie roast takes place at the Fargo Estate Neighborhood Association community garden at the corner of Jersey and West Streets.
The “Weenie Wednesday” barbecue is a free event and open to all ages. It includes hot dogs and soda, though guests are welcome to join in the potluck affair by bringing a dish to share. The next one will be in July and the location will be posted on the GGB website.

So after fireworks and celebrations on Friday and Saturday, some, if not many, Buffalonians will no doubt be hung over and tired. That’s okay. Between 3 and 6 PM, Cozumel at 153 Elmwood Avenue runs drink specials on Bloody Mary’s and Vodka drinks. A Blood Mary will only cost you $4.50 and a V …

Here's a rerun of a post Steel did two and a half years ago. A building with an already rich history back then, it has even more of a story to tell now. Fortunately, due to the hard work and foresight of a group of neighbors, preservationists, a great lawyer and a developer with the wherewithal and vision to turn an imminent demolition around, one of Steel's favorite buildings has a future too.
This marvelous edifice is on Jersey Street just west of Richmond. It is on a great …
E Square Capital, LLC is busy converting a former factory at 937 Broadway near Fillmore Avenue into a mix of 43 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments plus first-floor commercial space. “This residential development fills a huge need and is a great opportunity to bring quality, affordable housing to the Broadway-F …

I would love to see more evergreens planted throughout Buffalo for all of these great programs. Evergreens make a huge difference in the winter landscape.
