Urban Roots Gears Up For A Greenhouse

"The Millers contacted us... we went and took a look at it and it turned out to be a great greenhouse. Michael Gainer and his Buffalo Re-Use group helped us to transport the structure. We're hoping to reassemble it this summer. We finally purchased the two lots next to the gardening center... now we're going to put in a watering system for all four lots. It's an irrigation system. Then we're fencing in the lots and adding a deck to the building. Dolci Bakery is adding a second location next door, so people will be able to sit in an outdoor seating area while enjoying coffee and baked goods. We're always looking for volunteers to see that these projects happen sooner rather than later. The more people, the faster we can get these things done. All of the apartments and storefronts at Urban Roots are rented out... things are really moving... everything was rented immediately.”

The metamorphosis of the former Dulski federal building, rechristened Avant, continues as the final pieces of glass façade are going up on the 15-story structure. The $80 million conversion of the building into a mix of office, hotel and residential space is expected to be complete early next year. UniQuest, a joint venture consisting of Uniland Development Company and Acquest Development is project developer.
Back in the day before international airports and interstate highways, the Central Terminal was Buffalo’s gateway to the world. But in a turn of events scarcely imaginable to the generation that built the Terminal, passenger rail service is now a ghost of its former self—chronically late, infrequent, and boarded from sheds either miles away in Depew, or cowering hidden at the feet of the expressway downtown. Now, in a post-modern era of skyrocketing gas prices, re-urbanizati …
Ontario Specialty Contracting Inc.(OSC) has been chosen by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) Board of Directors to perform demolition on the Memorial Auditorium. The ECHDC authorized a nearly $1.5M contract with the Buffalo-based firm, the lowest bidders for the demo out of 11 companies.
In addition, OSC will grind the concrete for reuse, rather than simply disposing of it.
The demolition contract directs OSC to carry out the work within a 5-month window …
Debbie Sidel opened the door of Half & Half Trading Co. at the age of 22. Now, even after 35 years of business, Debbie has not lost an ounce of enthusiasm for her role as owner of the little boutique.
Debbie has dressed generations of women in Buffalo. “Sometimes three different generations of women will walk in, a girl, her mother, and the grandmother, and they can all find something they like!” Debbie said. “I started out dressing college kids, then, as they grew up, …

This is great to see Urban Roots growing. This neighborhood seems to be showing more life now then it has in years. I am going to continue to take a look at this area (R.I., Essex St neighborhood).
Continue the great work!

Impressive. I'm glad to see this group gaining some ground and some generous people from Grand Island offering such a significant addition. I still have yet to check out their location... something for when it warms up a bit.

Did that gelato shop open up next door to the garden center. I haven't read anything about it on BRO. I'm not talking about Dolce either, it was a different business.

Gelato G's is actually a part of the Dolce business. Both will be in the space next door at 426 Rhode Island, serving up gelato, sweets, and espresso beginning in April, when the gardening community comes alive.

Gelato G and Dolci work together at their Elmwood location and will do the same on Rhode Island. We are all looking forward to the smell of fresh baked bread and some of the best gelato we've ever had.
