Well, Full Circle Studios is definitely succeeding in its goal of getting people talking with locally-themed humor pieces, based on yesterday's clip of "Buffalo v. NYC". In today's short, the Queen City compares notes with Charlotte, NC again starring John Kreuzer.

The initial clip, "Buffalo v. Cleveland", explains the series' goal of creating content for a local cable station that would get people talking and watching the network again. The "Buffalo vs." series was one of several themed shorts, some historical, some modern, which take aim at local culture.

The mission, as outlined in their website for the work, was:

"[To create an] exclusive, locally-produced show that might be different, attention-grabbing, and controversial enough to draw audiences away from satellite and other competitors, a group of us sat down and thought about this challenge. What kind of show would be "talked about around the watercooler the next day,” as the cable folks described it, and still make sense economically and artistically to produce on a regular basis in a local market? The answer was clear, a locally focused satirical sketch comedy show."

Let's see how today's clip is received.

I like the idea of what they are attempting to do with these videos....this is the first one that I watched. Not bad.

    Need more substance to them.

I've lived in Charlotte for a handfull of months.......ITS BORING & PLAIN.

These are funny. I like the way one person is used to symbolize a city's identity. Also, I think that people who move to "Charlotte" feel obligated to talk it up. Don't know why.

This one is much better than the NYC one, and funnier than the Cleveland one.

    (sarcasm)

...but they're stereotyping the inhabitants of Charlotte as a bunch of upstate NY transplants, oh the horror!

    (/end sarcasm)

I lke the idea, however I think both with the Charlotte and NYC videos hey were too stereotypical and need a little more realism that will grab people.

Loved the skit. I actually am a big fan of the entire series so far...ESPECIALLY the NYC vs Buffalo! As a former WNYer living in Charlotte, I might be the first, but not the last to tell you that there are plenty of Buffalo transplants that ARE making it in a big way in Charlotte. The Charlotte Observer put that number at just over 24,000 from the 8 county WNY area...since the year 2000. Although we love the high paying jobs, great weather, upward career mobility, low taxes, economic growth, legit politicians, the can do attitude, the ocean and the mountains, and yes, even maybe a little NASCAR, I can honestly say, without a doubt, that we ALL miss WNY greatly! The bars are jam packed for the Sabres games, and when the Bills come to town, the stadium is a mirror image of the Ralph, filled with Bills fans, many of who would love to come back. Yeah, we miss the food, the culture, the people, and the family....but as time passes, these things seem to be following us to Charlotte as well. So, if that time comes where it is time to move back in with the parents, the move shouldn't be too far....they will be in Charlotte too.

Did I mention that I enjoyed the skits?...

Here is one, "Hi I am Buffalo, I am a sour jealous thug" This is a nice way to promote a city and community

All I am saying is something can be done a bit more creatively to promote the strengths of the city. It does not have to be a predatory, nasty campaign against other cities. For instance, NY vs. Buffalo is legitimate argument. If you think about the Subprime crisis in some of the expensive suburbs surrounding NYC and the fact that people are in over their head, real estate wise. Match it with the trend of tele-commuting and Buffalo's access to some of the major financial/Business hubs; NY, Chicago, Toronto, Boston (with Jet Blue), San Jose, etc. There is a good story.

For instance; I am a home owner in CT or Long Island or NJ or Westchester. Suddenly I find myself upside down in my house. My monthly payments are killing me as I refinanced with ARMs. All the houses on my block are for sale. I want to sell my house and keep working for my company.

I propose to move to Buffalo, Kansas City, Cleveland, etc, where I can get my kids into a good school, move into a nicer house and join a community that is closer than any community I have ever had in NY, DC, Chicago, Boston, Miami, Charlotte, etc...

So I sell my house, maybe at a loss for what I refinanced it for, but it is off my hands. I move to Buffalo and purchase a home for less than my loss. I am able to provide the choice of Private, Public or Perochial Schools. Perhaps able to afford a summer home or at least a week or two in Canada. I have no commute, I have no worries about the commuter tax (not to mention gas prices), I am free of my upside down mortgage and investing in a city on the rise, I have access to any major city within an hour, my kids are safe and we are living in a caring and nurturing community.

Why not take that angle... Is it too difficult to make it irreverent? Yet you resort to a violence campaign? Silly, you could have done better to promote this wonderful city!

I 100% agree with this last idea by auburner. This angle should be looked at and invested in.

Some of you people are complete morons. This is supposed to light hearted and not a serious pitch for what our area has to offer. Take the stick out of your asses, relax and maybe have a laugh once in awhile.
