    From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_New_York_City

New York City has the lowest crime rate among the ten largest cities in the United States.[1] Since 1991, the city has seen a continuous fifteen-year trend of decreasing crime. Neighborhoods that were once considered dangerous are now much safer. Violent crime in the city has dropped by 75% in the last twelve years and the murder rate in 2005 was at its lowest level since 1963: there were 539 murders that year, for a murder rate of 6.58 per 100,000 people, compared to 2262 murders in 1990. Some feel that the implementation of COMPSTAT crime analysis by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) in 1994 is responsible for the positive changes.

Buffalo has higher per capita rates of murder, forcible rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny theft, and vehicle theft than does New York City.

Unless the sketch is intended to demonstrate that you are much more likely to be shot, raped, assaulted, or killed in Buffalo than NYC, it's not funny. Playing to stereotypes is base and tedious.

Well, far as I could tell, it's meant to not be a general comment on crime rates, but based on Amadou Diallo reaching for his wallet, as this man is reaching for his tickets. It's also not the only element of humor in the sketch.

There was humor in that sketch? Like I said, stereotype humor is bland, base, and tedious. It would be about as funny as a New Yorker making us all out to be fat polish guys with our faces covered in wing sauce. Also, I picked up on the idea that the video was mocking the Diallo incident. Nothing funnier than that, right? Ay yi yi.

Wow, what a bitter comentary on civic pride! I expect that out of Boston, not Buffalo! That is Bull Sh*t. It is mean, incorrect and if aimed at NYPD downright cruel. I have no respect for this kind of gallows humor, mockery, insecure civic promotion. Not a creative way to promote such a wonderful city with so much to offer.

I would have done a video, perhaps, talking about affordability, that would have been a fair space to play, but fear and murder??? Not funny! Shame

The whole Brooklyn "how ya' doin?" Guido stereotype is old hat. Did you get the memo? Bklyn is now only like 2% Italian descent..they've all moved to Staten Island and New Jersey.

Next thing you know they will be beating people up from Miami to promote Buffalo, that should be funny...

i think this video is terrible. Yea NYC is known for its crime but you stuff millions of people into any small area and there will be crime.. broken down NYC is a very safe city. DOnt know the full stats but im sure buffalo is no safer.

ditto to all above. in a city trying prove sterotypes dont tell the who story, this is self defeating - not to mention pretty humorless.

    I say pull it!

ehhh-its not very good. I also don't like Buffalo to be some timid white guy. I'm not entertained but this short is probably better than anything I could have done. Keep on trying.

There are other negatives they could have done about New York like expensive housing, horrible traffic, noise, etc. I found this video to be stupid and sad. I agree that using a guido is idiotic. Why didn't they play a stereotypical Jew while they were at it? Shame. The first one was good.

You people are kidding right? Wow, what a bunch of uptight, humorless wonks...

It's sketch comedy, calm down, have some dip.

Gabrielle, you should post the Buffalo Stretchers video after you're done with this series, that cracked me up.

Yeah. SNL is sketch comedy, too. And almost all of it sucks ass. So when people say _this_ sketch comedy sucks ass, it's in good company.

Like I said, bunch of uptight, humorless wonks. Complaining about the use of stereotypes in comedy is like complaining about violence in hockey. ;-)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! All this lovely commentary is the desired effect of this and other "Sorry, McKinley" fare. It's much more interesting to throw local social and political satire in your face than to take another look at Paris Hilton or David Hasselhoff. Whether you liked it or not, at least it got you talking (yelling, whining, kvetching...whatever). Wait'll you see "Buffalo Sketchers"! Keep up the hubbub and we may have to throw the "Holt Cola" clip on here! I think this crowd might actually GET it. HAHAHAHAHA! Love, Your favorite timid white guy

Hey John, welcome to the wonderful world of interactive media! Aren't you glad you came? Your work has obviously hit a nerve, and has certainly sparked dialogue. Mission accomplished. I've noticed BRO readers are far more likely to jump in to a discussion when they're unhappy than when entertained or amused. Consider us your test market!

I believe the stereotypical Jew moved to Miami. Perhaps I should have beaten him instead? Ah, well...next time.

I saw the Holt Cola thing on your site, along with some other ones. I'd love to see those.

I also love how pissy some people get at *gasp* criticism.

But, oh, my momma loves me. She loves me. She gets down on her knees and hugs me. Oh she loves me like a rock.
