Isn't the asking price a bit high? Oh shame on me, the nightclub/music club bar business is a goldmine. With all of the potential profits, the note can be clear in a couple of years. We all know that music club owners are just raking it in.

hopefully this won't go the same route as the Continental did.... Buffalo gets bypassed for Toronto enough already and this would really hurt things more if it were to closed.

I love the Mohawk - seen some great music there over the years...and some pretty crappy bands too..but it's always a fun stop downtown.

I have never been to Mohawk. What genre typically plays there? I think for a live music club to do well in Buffalo they need to cover multiple genres.

$349,000???????? Uh...I don't think so. Yeah...it's got some 'charm and character'--but is being filthy included in that? I'd actually rather piss out the back door and watch the rats scurry than step into that bathroom. Sorry. Ughhhhh. The positive part is that it could be a great live music venue--so here's hoping someone will get it for the right price and clean that pace up without losing the 'charm.' Oh--and real glasses would be nice.

Broadway Joes is also for sale. 3 live music venues either closed (Icon) or for sale (Mohawk, Broadway Joes) doesn't bode well for the live music scene.

Buffalo's live music scene has never been very strong with attracting national acts....Rochester for some reason is even better than Buffalo. Besides the occassional Town Ballroom show you pretty much have to rely on local acts or drive to Toronto for anything decent

This is pretty depressing news. I've seen many great shows at Mohawk over the past 3 years (Tokyo Police Club, The Walkmen, The French Kicks, Big Sleep, Headlights....etc). They've attracted some very good underground bands on the verge of breaking out. Nothing beats live music and a $2 PBR. With Soundlab and The Tralf now hosting most of the big underground names, i'm sure it's hard for them to compete. Hopefully someone buys this place and carries on the same tradition.

P.S. Broadway Joe's was bought over the summer. I don't know why they don't get hooked up with Supernaut for some good shows.

For the record, The Mohawk Place is doing very well and has had its most successful year to date in 2007. Selling a business does not necessarily mean it is not doing well. In this case, Pete the owner is interested in collecting his equity to use for other things, such as retirement and travel. As the regulars will attest, Pete can be found at the bar working the door almost every night of a show, 4 or 5 times a week, usually into the wee hours. It is simply now time to pass the torch and get some sleep. As far as the doom and gloomers go, The Mohawk Place is NOT in any danger of closing and we are prepared to take the long road (years, if necessary) to find the right owner who will keep the spirit and integrity of the club in place and ensure its longevity.

I'm pretty sure if business was good and profits were high then someone would have bought this fairly quickly...also to all of you that think the bar business is as easy as opening doors and tapping a keg, you are sadly mistaken. There is a list longer than Santa's naughty list of things that can go/do go wrong every night. Good luck to whoever takes it over.

Tony, without sounding too much like I'm putting you down, you must not have a great understanding of economics/business pricing. So don't make blanket statements like that, particularly right after someone who is much more familiar with the details of the business just gave an explanation of the situation.

A business can be doing VERY well and make large profits, and those profits would be represented by a higher asking price. It's all about the Net Present Value of future expected profits and cash flows. If the asking price is less than that value, then its a good deal, if its higher than that, then its a bad deal. So essentially, just because it hasn't been snapped up yet, doesnt mean the business isn't healthy.

I love mohawk place, and hate to see it go. Would love to buy it.. but 349? Holy hell. Its going to need 10's of thousands in cleaning and renovating on top of that. I have never been upstairs.. but if the downstairs is any idea forget about it.

This isolated location would be excellent for a strip club! Help put the local girls thru college.

I simply pointed out that in the business world things that are undervalued do not stay on the market for long. If it is a good price and value, then someone will snap it up relatively quickly.
