Fix Buffalo's Tour de Neglect Sponsored by BRO

As of moments ago, David, a long time East Side resident, had chosen this summer's dates for the tour. If you are not familiar with the tour, then here are a few of the details from David:
"2008 is now officially scheduled and sponsored for 2008. Meet-up and return at the Sonic Café (across from Art Space on Main Street). Tour is about 3.5 hours and winds through 8 miles of the City's East side. Tour de Neglect is offered in cooperation with Buffalo Rising this year. The tour costs $10/person and all proceeds will go directly to Queen City Farm.
We'll be crossing this on the way back and slowly winding our way through the Fruit Belt, up Ellicott and back to the Sonic Café. The narrative - despite the neglect and decay - is one of opportunity and hope. No registration required, just show up the day of the tour. We'll be leaving promptly at noon. Bring a lunch, plenty of water and make certain that your bicycle is in good working order.
Seeing the City by bike, especially parts that are slightly off the radar like these, is really an amazing adventure!"
The '08 schedule is, May 24th, June 28th, July 26th, August 23rd and September 27th. The $10 rides are being sponsored by Buffalo Rising online and magazine with proceeds benefiting Queen City Farm. Rain dates take place on the following Sunday.

New Era Cap Co. is making moves to place Buffalo on the map as a premier destination for young baseball players looking to compete in a large-scale baseball tournament. The New Era Cup Classic runs the weekends of July 17th-20th and July 31st-August 3rd, 2008.
On the final day of each weekend, championship games will be held at Dunn Tire Park. The baseball tournament, the first of its kind from New Era, will attract over 140 elite youth baseball teams, an estimated 3,500 play …
Last night, downtown Buffalo witnessed an historic moment at the Erie Canal Harbor when it presented its first ever “Official” City of Buffalo fireworks bash there. Thousands of people spent the day watching live bands rock the pier as people made their way in and out of the maze of paths and canal era ruins.
Buffalo Place arranged for live music on the new pier throughout the day with music from Wendell Rivera Latin Jazz Ensemble, Boys of Summer, Rod Nickson Project, Jac …
Calling all filmmakers, ages 14 and up, to participate in an I Love New York Competition, with great prizes, celebrity judges, and hopefully your short film.
The competition requests filmmakers to produce a short film depicting their own views of the "I Love New York" motto. When dreaming up your take on this famous motto, keep in mind the beauty, diversity, and geography of New York State. In addition films will be judged by how well they highlight unique features and off-the …
So after fireworks and celebrations on Friday and Saturday, some, if not many, Buffalonians will no doubt be hung over and tired. That’s okay. Take Sunday, skip church, and sleep in till the afternoon. Just make sure you’re up and ready to go around 2:30 PM so you can make it on time to Cozumel Grill for Sunday Bloody Sunday.
Between 3 and 6 PM, Cozumel at 153 Elmwood Avenue runs drink specials on Bloody Mary’s and Vodka drinks. A Blood Mary will only cost you $4.50 and a V …

Does someone have to be a genius to see that the primary areas of destruction in the inner city follow the:
1) Niagara Expressway
2) Kensington Expressway
3) I-190
4) Route 5 Southtowns Connector Expressway
Can there be any discussion about inner city blight without discussing access ramps downtown and encouraging traffic back on our streets and boulevards and parkways

PS, look at the above map...because there is something critical to the future of Buffalo that Buffalo Risers never discuss.
LOOK AT MASTEN PARK ON THE MAP
LOOK AT HUMBOLDT PARK ON THE MAP
NOTICE HOW CLEANLY THEY CONNECT BETWEEN WHAT IS IT DODGE AND BEST
Now maybe there are still to many intact homes to integrate these two parks into a kind of urban CENTRAL PARK but we can explore other ways to integrate the two parks with a circular lane restricted for bikers and joggers that connects both parks much like Delaware and South Park have circular roadways.
THIS AREA IS RIPE FOR URBAN REDEVELOPMENT AND RESIDENTIAL INFILL.
Lastly, I urge everyone to contact the Olmsted Park Conservancy to request that every Olmsted Park have a Farmers Market....and rebuild their Calvert Veaux Shelters in the future to house such farmers markets. If that happens then there is the possibility that in a very real sense urban living may just become more pleasant than sububan for Buffalonians thanks to our Olmsted Parks and urban density.

chris69 you should know that Best to Masten Park crossing over the City Honors site which was also a small Olmsted space down North to Symphony circle was considered in Olmsted's designs as his connection of Humboldt Park to the water. All Olmsted parks were integrated to both downtown (via Ellicott's radials) and the water and to each other. These are the bones of a superb and underutilized city infrastructure.

Possibly any the people that are going on this tour, that are not already involved in any of the organizations in East Buffalo, should get involved. Such organization as Buffalo ReUSE, Central Terminal, etc.. etc...

Joshua: totally agreed, and I would say that going on the tour is probably a good way to get that ball rolling. After the tour, ask David for advice on getting involved--I know he will be thrilled to help.
