First Beach-Goers... As If On Cue

It didn't take long for the kids to scamper out onto the sand where they chased each other around. A few minutes later they hunkered down to dig in the sand. The newfound activity piqued the interest of another young girl who soon joined the other children (with permission from her mother). As city officials stood up at the entrance of the beach, children had already given the new playground their blessing. This turn of events could not have been planned any better. Even though there was a nip in the air, the beach was being used within seconds after opening. Hopefully people will come down this weekend to see Erie Basin Marina beach first hand.

The City of Buffalo In Rem 42 Foreclosure Sale is scheduled to take place on October 20, 21, and 22, 2008 at the Buffalo Convention Center. For years, visitors to Elmwood Avenue have been gazing upon a partially lit neon work of art at Bidwell Parkway above Sahara Grill. Every once in a while there were reports that the neon was getting repaired... then nothing. That's not the case anymore as this Wednesday marks the official relighting of the Neon Tango Dancers. Thanks to the work of the Elmwood Village Association, the Buffalo Tango Society, NAS Quicksigns and Joe Golombek, the dancers will once again strut their st …
More often than not, Carl Paladino comes across as a guy who has a gripe about plenty of things in Buffalo—its politicians, its development projects and even the way its schools are run. And, more often than not, he makes a fair argument. Still, no one can deny that he is a full-time Buffalo Booster, with a particular passion and unconditional love for this city. It’s obvious in his dedication to doing business here.
As CEO of Ellicott Development Company, a real estate de …
At long last, Tony Maggiotto, owner of CityLove Clothing has found a permanent home on Elmwood Avenue. He has turned the former Stache/Damsel store into a one stop shop for all of your Buffalo needs, Tony is a mastermind when it comes to printing t-shirts that reflect the local times – my favorite happens to be the American Apparel that broadcasts ‘Peace Bridge Planning Committee. And now that Tony has made the move from apartment/cyber space to an official headquarters, he’ …

I think that it may not see much use this year or next year, but as the beach expands and becomes more well known it will become a popular spot.

This sounds so naive, but where exactly is the Erie Basin Marina? Not from here and all...

I know they want to take the 200k tic-tac-toe board down(interpretative facade of the ruins), but why not leave it for now. Give it a chance and see what the public thinks instead of flushing 200k down the drain. Same goes for the "commercial slip" lettering on the bridge.
Now that the weather is warming up, I look forward to walking around down there next week! Based on the post above, I also am anxious to see this lit up at night!
BRO...how about an article and pics of the interior of the naval park museum other than "the shed". Thanks!!

This is another small step in developing waterfront land with free access for pleasuer and relaxation. I only hope to see it expand and be used by area people as well as visitors. Does anyone know if it can be expanded as it does seem rather small?

I know this is off topic, but I could not find a place to start a new thread... This comment is actually an idea.
Since discovering labyrinths, I am disheartened that Buffalo does not have any. I heard they had one at Universalist Unitarian outside but it seems to have disappeared. Labyrinths have been around for centuries and can be a calming place. They are very spiritual and a pleasure to walk. I would love to see a public space used for a labyrinth that could be surrounded by a greenspace and available as a quiet destination in the city. Perhaps in Delaware Park, downtown or near the waterfront.
It is just an idea which I believe could be an asset to the city if it were well planned and designed for year round use. Possibly it could be somehow sheltered in the winter and open during the warmer months.
I would love to hear comments, ideas and suggestions on this idea. If you know of one locally, please share!

Hey MRodgers, that is great news, any way to see the design or hear the plans? Thanks for sharing about Trinity.

The Buffalo News story today said that the new beach got its start when "someone suggested the idea to Brian Davis". We all know that "someone" was Newell Nussbaumer. Make sure you spell the name correctly Buffalo News!
