Fire Up Your Corvair: Nader Visits Buffalo

Ralph Nader, originally heralded for his early work as a consumer advocate highlighting the deficiencies of GM cars (notably the Corvair) and later derided as America's Spoiler who, by his very presence on the 2000 Florida presidential ballot, likely threw the presidency to George W. Bush, will be making two appearances in Buffalo this weekend.
The Nader/Gonzalez for President Campaign (yes, he's actually named a VP candidate) has announced that Mr. Nader will be speaking Friday April 25th at 2:30pm at the Ukranian American Civic Center located at 205 Military Avenue. A $10 contribution is required.
Prior to the speech on April 25th, there will also be a "Presidential Lunch with Ralph Nader" at 12:30pm at the same location which requires a $50 contribution. Now, given Nader received 2.7% of the vote in his 2000 campaign, it's not clear what about this lunch will be "presidential" but if you RSVP and pay the $50, maybe you'll find out.
While Nader himself is an interesting character, his VP nominee, Matt Gonzalez, also brings with him a non-traditional political background. His highest elected office the is the Board of Supervisors for San Francisco. From that position, he lost his campaign for mayor of San Francisco. Mr. Gonzalez reportedly sleeps on the uncushioned slats of a futon, owns no property and wears hand-me-down suits from a former San Francisco mayor. Now that would be quite a change from Dick Cheney.
If you're a rabid Nader supporter, or perhaps just a bitter Gore fan looking to stare down your nemesis, rsvp to zawisky at gmail.com or call 716.479.2351.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

Bring along an old copy of Consumer Reports for him to autograph and don't forget to clip your coupons so you can follow up this extravaganza with dinner at Applebees.

Matt Gonzalez is a good guy and very well liked here in San Francisco. If you see him around town, buy him a beer.

I dislike Nader intensely, but I love it when he runs for President and takes some of the nut-case left wing votes away from Dems.

I have been searching far and wide for this Gonzalez character to buy for him some good cheer but his presence escapes me.

Democratic and Republican Parties = Communist Party. One World Party of, and for, and by the Corporation.
Vote for rationing of rice. Do I hear $3, $4, $5 dollars a gallon? 100 years of war in Iraq? Vote for Millionaire Clinton or Millionaire McCain or Millionaire Obama. It's all good when the buying power of working people today in America is worse than it was in 1972.
Casting a vote for their Majesties McCain, Clinton, or Obama is like getting down on your knees and thanking them for sending good jobs, benefits, and environment overseas. They have been in office for years and all we get is War in Iraq, high prices on everything from food to tolls, Katrina and polluted air, water, and products made in China.
60 years ago we leveled Europe and Japan and today the people in those countries have better health care, longer vacation time, benefits, pay, and a better economy. We won the war and got a few of the scraps. Ever since then it is war, war, and more war.
Vote to throw off the chains the Democrats and Republicans want us to wear.
Do America a revolution and throw the Dems and Reps out at the polls this November from the White House. They don't deserve the office any more. They have blown it! Our country is a mess because of them.
Become the nut job who sends their job to the Corporate-Red Army or be the patriot who votes with sense for what is right for the common good of the people instead of the corporation.

Yah lets all go jump off a cliff for Clinton, McCain, or Obama because they told you so.
Spending $14 million a minute in Iraq is like buying a corvair that runs on greed.
How is the rice stock piling program going on in your home RisingDamp666?
