Final Lineup For Rockin' At The Knox 2008

Though you can see the flashing advertisement on our website every day, just incase you aren’t quite paying attention and to keep you up-to-date, the Knox recently released the final lineup of performers who will be at the gallery for Rockin’ At The Knox 2008 on September 27th.
Obviously most people are aware that The B52s and Metric will be at the event. However, maybe you don’t know that the event is on two stages outside and one inside and that they’ve added some more musicians, including some local bands. Ben Lee, an actor and ARIA award winner will be performing as well as Tiny Masters of Today, an indie punk rock band. Also performing will be Robby Takac’s pioneering collective Amungus, Besnyno, and The Pillagers.
Trying to include something for everyone, the Knox will also be hosting a jazz performance that will take place in the gallery’s Sculpture Garden. The Other Side headlines the event. The trio features Kelly Bucheger on the sax, John Werick on the contrabass, and the gallery’s own Chief Curator, Douglas Dreishpoon, on the drums.
Performances kick off at 5 PM and the gallery will be open to explore to all ticket holders. You’ll be able to rock out and check out some amazing exhibitions including a photography exhibit Remix: Inner Space and Op-Art Revisited. The Collector’s Gallery will also be featuring the work of Mark Freeland.
Tickets are $40 in advance, available at here, at all Ticketmaster outlets including Macy’s Department Stores, at the gallery’s admissions desk, or by calling 852-5000. Day of the tickets are $45 and all tickets are standing room only. The Knox does have accessible accommodations for guests with disabilities. For more information on the event, visit the Knox’s website.

Larry Griffis III is a well-known Buffalo figure whose experience with steel is not only his passion, but his birthright. Some may know of his father’s sculpture park in South Buffalo, founded in the 60s, but his son has taken up the torch and is now a world-renowned sculpture. What started with the father has continued with the son. Griffis III’s work is starting to appear in spots in Buffalo and now, to see one of his works, you need look no further than Forest Lawn Chapel.

Though they only began in 2002, the 18-person Vocalis Chamber Choir have already made a name for themselves. Vocalis’ first CD was praised by the Buffalo News, is played regularly on WNED-FM, and they perform regularly through WNY, Toronto, and Pittsburgh. Their 2008-2009 season, which only includes eight or nine performances in WNY, will begin at Karpeles Manuscript Museum with their holiday concert dubbed, “Christmas at the Karpeles.”

Ever since the Falafel Bar opened on Allen Street, it was only a matter of time before the Elmwood location was no longer for this world. I spoke to owner, Oded Rauvenpoor, who told me that the decision to close came when he was at a crossroads. He found himself happy with his Allentown diggs, but began eying another part of the city for the Elmwood restaurant. In the end, Oded decided that he wanted to try his hand in the University District (3476 Main Street). I guess there was …
Now that it has passed, the question is how does the “Bicycle Commuter Tax Act” affect me as an employer or employee on a daily basis.
During a time where healthy, environmentally sustainable and community friendly transportation options are more and more looked at as an effective way to encourage energy efficiency, to improve public health, to prevent congestion, to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and to improve community livability and safety, this is an essential step …

Damn, be nice if someone could book another Tiny Masters gig while they are in the area for those of us who have no interest in any of the other bands on the bill.

Damn, be nice if someone would realize that we liked the former event (perhaps erronously called Rockin' at the Knox) where some of the best local dance bands and a few bar and refreshment stations were scattered throughout the gallery for dancing, etc. About 1,500- 2,000 seemed to have a good time during those former events. Please give us back that event! (You can keep the name.)
Some of us prefer to get a seat (or at least have a place to sit down after a while), parking infrastructure, a roof over our heads, real bathrooms [are you with me ladies?], etc. for a ticketed concert-type music event.
Standing for hours on asphalt with beer cups crushed and laying about and standing in line for the porta-potty is not an improvement over the former event.
Oh- and enjoying the art in the gallery along with the music was an added bonus.

Is that the same Ben Lee that made "Grampa Would" when he was like, 14 years old? It was a pretty good album.
