Everything is calm at Seven Seas
Dateline: Buffalo, NY
Time: sunrise, Saturday morning
Weather: beautiful, little humidity and a fine breeze
Mood: let's summer!
Looking at the skies this morning, I told my dog Lilly... "If Einstein were still around, he'd go sailing today." Such streams of gold and blue imbuing an August morn...robust with days yearn to stretch to an endless horizon...grab a coffee and kick in the day!
Albert Einstein liked many things, from sailing, to the strumming sounds of violin, and then certainly physics. He alluded his strong desire for sailing to the time he was a lad, referring to sailing as a way of entering a special thought stream, saying: iDreaming was central to my lifelong work, from my vision at sixteen of riding a beam of light.i And he sailed well into his spaniel eyed-old age.
He also liked barter, his preferential means of economic exchange, and said: "If I had my life over to live, I'd prefer to have been a trader of goods; for I think barter is a noble thing." That line strikes me high, for trading is in my appetite, galore. Figure if you're sailing in a long journey, trade might come handy.
So then, what exactly is E= mc 2???
Let's explain. "Everything equals my calm, squared." That's, essentially, sailing.
And that would be a grand reason to come to Seven Seas today. And YOU are most welcome.
.... Speaking of violins...watch for future Fridays, at dockside, when we launch our fleet sunset sail... the Community Music School has some treats at dockside for us as we embark our sunset journeys. Some high notes ahead.
Happy trails on vibrant waves, and seagull skies,
Bill Zimmerman @ Seven Seas Sailing School
FYI: The Buffalo Convention and Visitors Bureau reports that over 33,000 people visit WNY every summer solely to see our world renowned population of seagulls, one of the most vast varietals of a collections of species in the world. Who'd have thunk?

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …
