Dug's Dive

William Douglas knew how to cook and make people happy, and he was a hospitable man. According to current owner, Tucker Curtain, this is what Dug's dive is still about today.
Curtin wants people to know about the history (printed on the menus) of Dug's, as well as what it's become today. Dug's is currently a seafood restaurant, serving shrimp, clams, crab cakes, along with chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, fries and much more. They also have an ice cream stand that will serves chocolate covered frozen bananas.
Westward facing over Lake Erie, Dug's is just steps away from the bicycle path that rims the shore, making it a great oasis for those enjoying a boat ride, bike ride or a stroll.
In addition, Curtain promises plenty of live entertainment this summer. Watch this exclusive interview done earlier in the season with Tucker Curtin to learn more about Dug's Dive. It is a favorite summer destination that Curtain hopes to keep lively year-round.

During tonight’s Democratic National Convention, a Buffalo State College alum will be in the spotlight. Gregory Smith, 44, of Brooklyn, N.Y., interned with Barack Obama’s campaign earlier this year and now works as a Colorado field organizer. Sometime tonight between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m., the campaign will pay tribute to Smith and the strength of his support.
Smith, who completed a bachelor’s degree in political science last May, has been an Obama supporter since 2004. After …
BRO’s regular readers know Buffalo is becoming more bicycle-friendly by the day, thanks to a perfect storm of factors ranging from gas prices to the health benefits of regular exercise to how great a summer breeze feels on your face. Well, add another reason to the list: riding a bike can help fight AIDS. “But John,” I hear you say, “how can riding my trusty little blue bike fight AIDS?” Well ok, it probably can’t. But riding the Big Bike on September 18 can. “But Jo …
Now there's a mouthful... I don't think I've ever quite heard of a dedicated day longer than Sahlen’s Dog Days of Summer at Dug’s Dive Day. I guess that the point was made, and that's the important thing. Monday, September 1st is, officially, a day to enjoy a Sahlen's dog and the waterfront... it's a combo deal according to The Mayor. And as much as I'd like to see it (cough, cough), I'm probably won't be able to make it to Dug's Dive in time to see the Sahlen’s World Picnic …
What would it really take to recreate and re-brand the Main Street side of the Main Place Mall? While biking past 'the mall' last night I snapped a couple of photos of the mild disaster that we know as the Main Place Mall. In this day and age, how hard would it be to put a new treatment on that thing? Take down the cheesy awnings, put up some attractive signage, clean the windows, get the clutter away from the windows... there are some usable elements that could be incorporated in …

It would be cool if more of the BRO stories had videos.

Was at Dug's for the first time a week ago, nice change from the former. Love the bar thats shaped like a hull of a sailboat. Few of my friends and I docked there and had a bite to eat and a few brews. Everyone seemed pleased. I had a jerk chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. The fries were excellent, the sandwich was good, but I was expecting much better since I believe I heard a former cook from Curly's worked in the kitchen, however I may be mistaken.

Clam Chowder - best I've ever had. Veggie Burger - meh. View - very nice. Prices - reasonable.
I still prefer the River Grill but Dug's Dive is a nice option to have.

Went to Doug's a few weeks ago with a friend and it was TERRIBLE. The service was THE WORST--- the hostess had no idea what was going on, the tables sat dirty for 45 minutes while there were A LOT of people were waiting to be seated, I got my own napkins, the waitress did not bring 1/2 of our order and when I asked for it she said they were out, the bartender and manager were getting wasted and they started turning people away before 9pm on a Friday. Also--- my dinner was terrible. I hate to be such a downer but I was severely disappointed. I have not seen so much potential in a LONG time. I hope someone can turn it around. :)

My kids love this place. This video doesn't show that the tables are out, the bands are on and the food is good. The weather down there is ideal right now, it's so much cooler than it is on the humid days in the city. And, there's a lot less chaos than Mississippi Muds and Old Man River's where there's a busy street between you and the water and little or no readily available parking.

Doug's is a nice little place but the service can be a bit slow. I enjoy the chicken fingers which are really tasty and nice and spicy hot and the sweet potato fries are always a treat. Don't go here to grab a quick lunch but if you want to kick back and take in the Small Boat Harbor and a nice view of the lake slow down and relax while you wait.

"Current owner?" We're talking about a place that has been CLOSED for a century, bears zero resemblance to the original structure, and is nowhere near where it originally stood. What gives?

Have to second Erin's post. Went last month the service was terrible, food was cold, and customers were just walking around looking for some kind of direction from the staff on where they could sit in hopes of being served sometime in this millenium. I was extremely dissappointed, as I was hoping to make this establishment a regular stop with the family this summer. Unless I hear of a drastic improvement, I shall not return.

Sally-Since there seem to be differing views on the quality of food and service I hope you won't write the place off. At least go for a beverage. I'll be there when I visit later this summer.

I have to agree with Erin's post too. The service was terrible, and the food was not anywhere good enough to compensate for the crummy service. It only took 10 minutes to get a table, but then it took an hour and half to get the food. The food was then not as we ordered it, it was overcooked, and very small portions. In addition, during the hour and a half wait for the food, the waitress never once came back to refill our drinks. The whole experience was awful. The only good part is it's location.

Four of us went to Dug's Dive for luncheon at noon yesterday....yes it was busy and we waited about ten minutes for our table...BUT....we had a fabulous afternoon! Each ordered something different and everyone was more than pleased! In fact, it didn't look like anything on the menu would not be delicious! Our waitress, Lizzie, was more than ready to serve us....Zach at the bar was very personable and made us feel at home! After lunch we were fortunate to meet Tucker, the owner, and after speaking with him it is easy to see how en!thusiastic and hardworking this young man is! We definitely can't wait to schedule another luncheon at Dug's, and we already know what items we want to try next time!
I recently returned to Buffalo after living down South for 14 years - WHY are so many Buffalonians such "downers"....we are lucky to have some of the best food in the country here in WNY - stop your griping! Give Tucker and his establishment a chance - and anyone else who might help Buffalo take advantage of it's wasted waterfront! Shame on those who are discouraging it's development!
