Doggin' It In Allentown

Back in May... of '07, I wrote a post regarding a dog-friendly business moving into Allentown. The location was to be at the June 2 Modeling Agency building. It appears that after more than a year's time, the Allentown Dog Center plan is moving forward. Actually, the signs on the building state that the business is scheduled to host an open house this weekend (June 21st). A quote from last year's post:
"We will be bringing a dog-friendly business to Allentown. It will be a place where owners can come to socialize their dogs. We will most likely offer doggy daycare, walking services, bathing and grooming, pet parties,... and down the road we will be looking into boarding as well as carrying accessories and food. There are a lot of dogs in Buffalo, and we feel that the city should be as dog-friendly as possible."
A BRO reader has the details: The Grand Opening will take place from 10a-5p. The facility will offer dog daycare, bathing/grooming, boarding, obedience, pick up/drop off, and pet sitting/homecare. The address is 2 Irving Place, 14201 (corner of Irving & Allen); telephone is 716.689-8884.

Having a tough time deciding on how to spend your weekend? The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society (BECHS) won’t make your decision making process any easier as they’re offering two great events this coming Saturday and Sunday. December 6th marks their third annual Native American Festival and on December 7th, BECHS will host a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day that is free to veterans of the armed service. Both days are filled with fun activities and interesting visitors th …
It’s really a shame if you missed the reading series “Poetry at the Tea House” that took place at Tru-Teas! during this past year. Luckily, Trudy Stern didn’t want anyone to miss out and teamed up with Michael Morgulis to produce an incredibly fine, unbound book entitled “Tea Leaves” to commemorate the readings and spread the work of the local poets who partook in the program.
In honor of the publication of this special edition portfolio, Morgulis and Stern are hostin …
I think that I would like to start off this post by commending the three Common Council members who were bold enough to ask for today's bizarre Waterfront Village decision to be tabled. David Franczyk, Mickey Kearns and Mike LoCurto all stuck to their guns when it came to holding off on making any hasty (and potentially tragic) decisions regarding our waterfront. Unfortunately, their headstrong stance was outweighed by the rest of the BURA committee, and the rumors are flying as t …
A development team has been selected for a vacant commercial site in Waterfront Village. Finally. The Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency this morning named Specialty Restaurants Incorporation as preferred developer for the prime 1.4 acre parcel at 10-15 LaRiviere Drive. The owner of the adjacent Shanghai Red’s restaurant is proposing an uninspired, four-story, 100 room Wingate Inn.

I wish the new owners the best. Have to say though, I have been sending my pups to Pawprints on Allen Street near Nietzsches since last October, and cannot say enough positive things about it and it's owner, Penny.
I have tried a number of places since Dog Days of Buffalo closed, and Pawprints is by far the VERY best. My dosgs are EXTREMELY well cared for by Penny and her staff, and just as important.....they are loved there too !! My pups LOVE it there and cannot wait to go.
I'm grateful to Penny that when Mom is working, her babies are so wonderfully looked after.

It rather does feel like Buffalo is going to the dogs. This location will be the second doggy day care on Allen between Wadsworth and Delaware and I see that the former flower shop next to Maureen's on Ellicott is also becoming a doggy day care. It all suggests that there is some pent up demand for doggy day care in Buffalo.
