Demo Of Canisius' Frauenheim Hall

The proposed $14 million development includes a new 27,000 sq.ft. Field House built on the site of the current Frauenheim Hall, which is located on the Cleveland Avenue side of the Canisius campus, just to the right of the famous “Blue Doors”. The Field House will include a full-sized basketball court arena, which will be configurable into three individual practice courts. This modular configurability will help to significantly reduce the need for early morning and late night practices.
The Math and Science Wing, as proposed, will include classrooms designed around the concepts of curriculum integration and academic excellence. Also to be located in the basement of this wing will be an expanded cafeteria facility that will offer increased schedule flexibility, which currently does not exist due to the limiting size of the current cafeteria. The 26,000 sq.ft. Math and Science Wing will be constructed as an extension of the Beecher Classroom Wing on the West Ferry side of campus.

As some may know, the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society’s museum building was the NYS pavilion during the Pan-American Exposition. Sitting in the exact same place as it always has in the museum building is the Steinway & Sons grand piano, custom-built 107 years ago for the exposition. Stephen Baker, the BPO’s Associate Executive Director, will bring the grand piano to life at “Music for a Sunday Afternoon” on Sunday, July 6.
Baker comes from California and has ha …
Can anyone tell me why the vast number of cafés and restaurants in the city do not recycle? I’m actually having a hard time coming up with more than a couple that do. I am constantly walking back to the cash registers with papers and plastics asking where the recycle bins are. And I’m repeatedly told that there is no recycling policy in place. That means that the only way to recycle is to do it yourself… and who wants to carry papers and plastics around with them until they …
One of the things that I really enjoy at the Thursday at the Square concert series is watching all of the young people congregate on Main Street. Last evening I found out that there is a new policy in place that forbids these kids from hanging out near Lafayette Square. From what I understand, a couple of fights broke out last Thursday and a shop window got broken. I can understand that there should be a concern when these incidents happen, but shooing everyone away because a coup …
After the 2006 October snowstorm, Re-Tree WNY was established with the goal to restore the 8400 trees that were destroyed in Buffalo during the October 2006 storm. Re-Tree WNY has been gradually climbing towards their goal with 2,730 trees currently planted in Buffalo and a plea for organizations to join Re-Tree WNY during their planting this November of 2,000 trees.
Even if you're not a member of an organization, Re-Tree WNY is encouraging individuals who would like to plant …

This part of the school was always so awkward. You couldn't walk down the halls in this building if there was someone walking toward you. If it was Father K, forget about...

LOL!!!!!! Father K was a man to be reckoned with. True, this building was very awkward. It was a totally cheap solution to house the Jesuits back in the day. It never fit in and made a worse solution to house the business end of the school. This whole remodel is quite exciting. "We will pledge ourselves to victory for Canisius Blue and Gold!"

icecreamsub: You are right, Canisius should have knocked down 800 West Ferry and built the field there, or on one of the other large open fields available within walking distance of the school.
More information on the buildings are available at www.canisiushigh.org for anyone who is interested. Both are significant upgrades for the campus and will improve the neighborhood as well as the facilities at the school.
And go easy on Fr. K.... he's probably reading this.

At one time, maybe three or four years ago, I heard Canisius was in discussion to purchase Community Action Organization's facility on Harvard. CAO wanted to move into a more efficient building; Canisius coveted their land for athletic fields (would have required acquisition and demo of some houses as well on Harvard and Oxford). This is a very short distance from their campus. I hope they continue this pursuit some day soon and sell off the Lancaster land (although perhaps the Lancaster site is a contender for an additional school location sometime down the road. I don't know).

buffaloed - "We will pledge ourselves to CONQUER for Canisius Blue and Gold" The recent revision to "Victory" seems to PC and does really fit the meter of the line (2 syllables, not 3).
My classmate and opera star Valarian Ruminsky correctly sings the Fight Song this is video, available on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVQMjZzKNaM
It is great to see Canisius enhancing its facilities. This, along with Holy Angels recent project and the continued work at the Canisius College, is quite exciting for an alumnus of the both the High School and College (my wife is an alumae of HAA and we're parents of 2 girls presently attending that school).

Geo3- I apologize for messing up the lyrics. I heard the song sung only once, and it was in my Freshman year, at the famed performance of your dear friend, Val. Please do not use the term 'Star' so loosely... he is man who performs opera..the end.
