Cozumel Gives Back To Roswell

Cozumel Gives Back To Roswell

Story Options

After putting on the slick duds for Curtain Up! the night before, you might feel the need to relax a bit, party down, shake your booty to some hip-hop, and listen to some live music. Luckily for you, you needn’t look further than Cozumel Grill at 153 Elmwood Avenue. Not only are they hosting a great party called "Summer's Edge," kicking off at 2 PM, but it’s also a fundraiser for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Angel Hoag, office and event manager for Cozumel, says “We’ve worked closely with Roswell before. We’ve always worked with them in the past…so we decided to go ahead and reach out to them.” Lake Effect Distribution, a newly formed company based out of Buffalo trying to give consumers an alternative place to buy brand-name electronics, is sponsoring the event. The company is also a friend of Cozumel’s, being present at other events they’ve held in the past.

It’s $10 at the door and all of the money raised goes right to Roswell. You’ll get to hear the rhythms of DJ Universal playing reggae and dub. He’s hosted a highly-rated show on WBNY for the past 8 years and has performed with Burning Spear and Toos and the Maytals to name a few. DJ Lopro, a well-known Buffalo name who is a veteran of old school music, will also be in the house. The Neville Francis Reggae band, who plays from 4 PM until 7 PM, and the Great Train Robbery, who will start their set at 8 PM, will join the two deejays.

Keeping this affair jumping will be three emcees that will make the crowd roar with laughter in between band/deejay sets and as the bands/deejays set up their equipment. Comedians Brandon Trusso, Tyrone Maclin, and Dan Fischer will crack jokes as the band and deejays ready the stage. The added bonus of live comic performances only adds to the fun-loving nature of the Cozumel Grill.

Be sure to check it out on Saturday, September 20th. Summer's Edge will be one of the few parties left of the year that can take place outdoors, so if you miss it, steal yourself against having to wait through the winter to enjoy another one. For more information, visit Cozumel’s website or give them a call at 884-3866.

How could any think the 'bands are joining the djs' when the djs (who could be anyone with an ipod & and way-too-much amplification) are really just filling time between bands? Things are really turned around. Billing djs ahead of musicians! Leading the charge are radio djs telling everybody to hire the radio station djs for their special events. Leeches on live music.

Went to two events today both of which greeted me with way-too-loud djs yelling and playing music (other people's music, not something they created) [Music is Art and the Puerto Rican parade] Hiding behind excessive volume, are we?

Djs may be artists and djing might be an art, but not to me. In about an hour any 6th grader at random could be taught to do 95% of what most djs do. Wondering what djs could do without any electricity. Borrow my victrola?
