Christmas Dinner in the City

As YUM! editor for Buffalo Rising Magazine, I thought it would be fun to do a feature on all of the great Buffalo restaurants that serve dinner on Christmas.
I made a million phone calls, asked everyone I knew, and even posted a piece asking BRO readers to fill us in on the fine establishments where they,Aeove had Christmas dinner. Here's what we discovered.
There are a number of really great Asian restaurants open on Christmas, but I was looking for places where guests could have classic Christmas fare.
Many of the bar/restaurants that have been mentioned to me used to be open on the holiday but have found it best to keep their bars open and their kitchens closed.
It seems that only a select number of restaurants are open on Christmas. Of the three we found, two of them have been on the Christmas dinner scene for a while, while the third is new to the game.
So, if you are interested in less work and more fun, cancel that trip to the grocery store and make a reservation.
Oliver's has always been open on Christmas. Many Buffalonians have made dinner at Oliver's part of their family tradition. With a special menu consisting of great holiday entrees like Surf and Turf, it's wise to make your reservation now. Oliver's, 2095 Delaware, 716.877.3662, www.oliverscuisine.com

They will be offering whole lobster, NY strip steak, BBQ ribs, or crab legs, a choice of salads, veggies, desserts and beverages. With this feast, you're sure to leave satisfied. Buffalo Rising just received this great news from the WNY Chapter of the American Liver Foundation, "Given today's economic climate we understand people cannot give as much as they would like. Effective today, tickets to Flavors of Buffalo 2008 are reduced to $100."
Everyone has a favorite restaurant; that special place for celebrations and birthdays. Maybe you love the food, the atmosphere, the whole experience. Ever wonder who’s behind it all or how your favorite chef makes t …
Sunday Suppers is a Buffalo Rising series that encourages readers to enjoy an evening with good friends and family, while preparing and eating a simple one-dish supper. Ingredients should include fresh produce and local food products. As my picky-eater daughter was preparing for her first year at college, I started thinking about her opportunity to start a Sunday Supper tradition in the dorm. A tasty, nutritious meal made together with roommates and friends could establish a routi …
You know how sometimes you have a conversation with someone and come away with the impression that things are good, and everything is as it should be? After I spoke with the Cichocki Brothers at Camellia Foods, a 3rd generation Polish Sausage and Ham producer in Buffalo, I came away knowing that at the center of everything they do is Family Tradition—as it should be.
The Cichocki brothers, Peter, Patrick and Eric, are at the helm of their Grandfather Edmund’s business that h …
Last month, when I asked readers to list five places they couldn’t live without, several folks mentioned Amy’s Place. A few of them specifically recommended the Margie Meal. So it was with great anticipation that I recently made my first visit to this very cool establishment. Why it took me so long to try this place, I’ll never know. Suffice to say that I’m already looking forward to my next meal there.
I liked the vibe right away when I noticed a sign on the wall that sa …

A.T.P.- Since BRO is city-focused, and we all live in the city, I am not personally aware of establishments that will be open during the holidays outside of the city. With one spectacular exception, and that is the Roycroft Inn in East Aurora. I'm sure our readers will have some ideas.
