CENTRAL TERMINAL FIRST ANNUAL TRAIN SHOW
How cool is this? The Central Terminal is hosting a train show. What better place could there be to spend a day with your kids than at the terminal checking out operational model trains. The terminal itself is worth the trip... but to see train setups inside will be a real trip. When I was a kid you couldn't peel me away from a train set. These days I am fascinated by the Central Terminal, though I will never lose my interest in model trains.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

Thanks Newell, we hope to see you there!
September is packed full of events: the model train show on the 10th, the Brewfest on the 16th and Oktoberfest on the 23rd. Please come out to one or all of these events. You won't be disappointed!
Also, if you're looking to help us prepare the grand old lady for this busy month, we will be having a clean up on Sunday, August 27th from 10am to 2pm. Stay tuned to our website for more details!

I'm definitely going to be there. What a wonderful idea. This is the perfect chance to see the inside of an amazing building, and hopefully add to my own Lionel collection.
Of course, you may want to consider attending this show and then also going over to the Folkloric Samba Fest in Johnson Park (from 1:00 to 5:00) in the West Village, either before or after the train show. You're so right, Mike Miller, September is packed full of cool events!

I will not be attending this model train event. My time is very limited these days, so I will not attend any event that isn't jam-band/progressive rock related. I love to listen to the Grateful Dead, Ten Years After, Shox Lumania, Desmond Dekker and the Aces, Emperor, etc. If this great music isn't somehow incorporated into an event, I won't go. It's as simple as that. Can't do it folks, can't do it.

We're working on getting the guys from the Colored Musician's Club to come to this show and play (they played some awesome jazz and R&B for the car show on July 22nd!). Does that change your mind? :)
