Celebrate Mardi Gras at Shango

When you think Mardi Gras, you think New Orleans, right? (insert "duh" here). But when you think New Orleans in Buffalo, what do you think of? I think of Shango, and if that doesn't evoke an equally obvious "duh" then you haven't been there. Not a better array of Creole-inspired concoctions in the city. And, of course, Mardi Gras gives them the opportunity to take it up a notch.
The party starts on Sunday, Feb. 26th when Shango adds live music to its already fabulous New Orleans Style Brunch. Then, on Monday night, drop by to help them celebrate their First Year Anniversary Party featuring the music of LeeRon Zydeco, drink specials, and complimentary hor-dourves. After sleeping off the effects (this is what personal days are for...good thing Mardi Gras happens early in the year!) you'll be ready for Fat Tuesday. Shango is going all out, hosting a Masquerade Party with live music by Babik and a special prix fix menu in addition to their regular offerings.
I stopped in today and the manager told me they are really putting a lot into these events. I could tell from how excited she was that this is going to be something special. So when you're breaking out the beads and your friends ask where you think everyone should go to celebrate Mardi Gras, you'll know what to say.

Shango was terrific. Good and unusual beers on tap, although pricey. We went for the po' boys and sweet potato fries and were not disappointed. I got the blackened catfish, which was excellent, but I should have gone with the oyster that my friend Lisa ordered - and was generous enough to give me a bite - which was even better!
