Canisius College Signs Up

On Friday I noticed that workers were busy installing the banners on the former Blue Cross/Blue Shield building. Canisius College purchased the building with the plan to convert it into a Interdisciplinary Science Center. It's just another link in the chain that is starting to showcase Main Street as a spine of higher education. If you think about it, the spine starts with ECC downtown and ends up at University at Buffalo's South Campus. In-between we find UB's investment at the Medical Campus and ongoing Canisius College investments including he building seen here.
There are even a host of non-collegiate learning institutions that help to strengthen the Main Street spine. And can you believe that they are all interwoven by a Metro Rail system that is seeing a major spike in ridership? That's why UB should continue to invest along Main Street (see reasons here). Maybe the UB higher-ups should be taking note from the schools architecture students (see why). We already know what the majority of law students have asked for (see that story).
Seeing the Canisius banners go up means that one more Main Street building is moving forward and helping to showcase Buffalo as a college town. Instead of disjointed investments on the outskirts of the region, we need to concentrate our resources in an area where students can utilize the inherent resources that a city offers. Let's keep the collegiate and university investments coming.

I think that I would like to start off this post by commending the three Common Council members who were bold enough to ask for today's bizarre Waterfront Village decision to be tabled. David Franczyk, Mickey Kearns and Mike LoCurto all stuck to their guns when it came to holding off on making any hasty (and potentially tragic) decisions regarding our waterfront. Unfortunately, their headstrong stance was outweighed by the rest of the BURA committee, and the rumors are flying as t …
A development team has been selected for a vacant commercial site in Waterfront Village. Finally. The Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency this morning named Specialty Restaurants Incorporation as preferred developer for the prime 1.4 acre parcel at 10-15 LaRiviere Drive. The owner of the adjacent Shanghai Red’s restaurant is proposing an uninspired, four-story, 100 room Wingate Inn.
Blog culture is becoming more and more respectable with each passing day. Though it remains a profession where it can be hard to earn a living, it is still a way for amateurs to spread their opinions and share with their readers specific interests. Chris Hawley has taken his passion and created a blog with it dedicated to the Hydraulics. The Hydraulics is Buffalo’s oldest manufacturing district and Hawley wants to uncover everything about this industrial site, from the people, t …
It’s hard to believe it, but my grandmother is only slightly older than Mickey Mouse. She would have been just four years old when Mickey came to life for the first time on November 18, 1928 in Steamboat Willie. His first film had no sound, was black and white, and premiered in New York City, but from a humble beginning, the singing, dancing mouse has gone on to literally change the face of the world and cartoons as we know them.
It’s not every day you turn 80 and though he†…

Its also why they should extend the light rail and Medaille should consider relocating along the airport corridor somewhere around the larkin district or beltway.

This looks great...good for Canisius! And speaking of college towns, is BRO going to give us more on the $100 Million student-housing complex being built a few miles east of here in Cheektowaga? Any $100 Million project is pretty big for Buffalo, and I'm a bit surprised we haven't heard much about it. Is that just because it's just beyond the city limits?

100 million in Cheektowaga, plus private dorms by Buffalo State
Whats the news on student dorms at the Pearce Arrow Factory?
Wasnt there supposed to be dorms around ECC downtown campus?
Thank god the college educational system operates somewhat independently of the economy....(depends more on birthrates than the economy since many people go to college
Suprisingly Buffalo based banks which have a national and global presence are doing quite well and even still expanding to some degree....
and other than the utter gender/minority incompetence over at Buffalo State (burocratic competence over at ECC), our colleges are still expanding.
But there is so much more that all our colleges and institutions could do....yet why? I just dont know.

Bweiner: Complaining about "gender/minority incompetence" of one school and upholding the "BUROCRATIC" (emphasis added) administration of another, in the same sentence, perfectly proves the stupidity of misogynist racists. Apparently the "more" the educational institutions need to do is find and educate you.

Banners look great, a nice complement to Main St. It is nice to see some progress outside of the new Science Building.

Dagner, please explain to everyone what an african american and woman president of Buffalo State has accomplished during her tenure. She cant even build dormatories. Their getting built off campus by private developers. She cant expand programs or increase enrollment. Over 10,000 applicants are refused every year. She cant cooperate with the community because Grant, Amherst, Tonawanda and Forest are abominations and embarrasments....and Burchfield Penny had no community input. She cant cooperate with UB or Canisius or embrace entrepreneurs and small business by setting up UB style incubators for them...even though what is it BERC international small business office is on Grant Street.
If it wasnt for her gender and minority status...what accomplishments does she have to deserve her job?
As far as Buracracy at ECC, well that abortion I should think speaks for itself.

Does anyone know if shuttle service will be provided from the housing units in cheektowaga? IMO the units should be located in this section of the city (yes I know the space issue), but it might give the students a more college feeling to be around the schools and libraries than in an urban section of cheek. Rail service (going all night) is a must now that main street is servicing the colleges and their economic development spinoffs.
Now if only we could get UB North connected....

Buffaloweiner, you've moving from anti-semitic rants to racist and sexist rants? An evolution to your devolution.

No, not exactly....Im just saying that if we are going to break people up into specific categories and groups to give them special protections and priveleges to the point where they get say different physical standards (military, police, fire, etc), or different academic and employment standards which diversity quotas and affirmative action quotas do....then the payment for that diversity should result in equal to or better performance.
The devolution of special groups and devolution of special priviledges has gone so far as to have students classifying themselves as autistic and ADHD just so they can get extra time on their SATS, GMATS, Medical Board Exams and Bar exams.
Is that where you want your life to be ending up in the operating room with a substandard surgeon who got that job because they got extra time on their exams that no one else got?
Where what you accomplish in life isnt based on achieve but on what group claims the greatest victimization and pushes you to the front of the line ahead of everyone else.
You could call it a mysogenistic rant or a racist rant except for one small detail. The only reason Howard is in the job as President is because she is both black and a woman. She has no past record of achievement and she has no record of achievement at Buffalo State under her tenure. Therefore, the only thing keeping her in such a position is not performance but her gender and race.
If she had such a record and I made such a statement...purely based on gender and race then you would be correct. However, since this is not the case. My comments are beyond opinion and prejudice....but based in objective fact which some liberals cannot abide by politically incorrect truth like vampires simply cannot abide the light of day.

Buffaloweiner, I don't have a side as to whether the president of the college is doing an adequate job, but you assume that Ms. Howard received the job only because she is a woman and is black. You don't know the factors that led to her hiring. You're just constructing weak arguments to justify your prejudice.

Paul Buffalo may I ask what world you inhabit because there has been such a thing as diversity quotas and affirmative action quotas particularly in school, educational institutions and government for nearly 50 years.
Anyone who is segregated as a group and protected class in law cannot separate out any receipt of opportunity from whateve form of quota, affirmative action, diversity, etc policy an apartment owner, an employer, a school, a government, etc must have by law.
Im just stating the obvious. Of course she excelled above all other non-minority, non-female candidates....she satisfied a legal policy initiative.
Its not weak at all...its plain as the sunlight you refuse to see through your liberal rose colored glasses.
As far as doing an adequate job...you need not know her daily schedule. One only has to look at the student enrollment which hasnt changed under her tenure even though 10,000 applicants are refsued. One only need look at the lack of new buildings and new programs. One need only drive down Amherst, Forest, Tonawanda, Grant ... and the section of Elmwood inhabited by Burchfield Penny to say.
City Hall with its largely minority union janitors (maintenance engineers) is a filthy pigstie known as far west as Syracuse and as far east as Cleveland....if a mayor has no hygience in managing the building of city hall, then what do you think will be the peception of Lord Byron managing the city?
What you liberals want to separate out every american into their basest groups and then when someone discusses that group turn it on them as if to say their prejudiced. However, I (we) had nothing to do with putting them in that group and giving them that protected class...free pass. You liberals did...so all Im asking is just live in the world you created.
Its the same thing ...Jimmy Carter nor any american president nor any non-jewish can discuss Israel or zionism or the jewish lobby in the US without being accused of anti-semetism. However, these groups and lobbies and political philosophies and this nation exists.

but liberals dont favor progress though they do favor reform unless its communist/socialist. Communists declared everyone who disagreed with the communist platform mentally ill, drugged them and sent them to psych wards or siberia. Its not that far from policing politically incorrect speech not just with accusations of hate and libel but with hate laws and the so called fairness doctrine to police the politically incorrect of the media.
They arent tolerant but conformist fascists. As long as one declares themselves a victimized minority in need of a government program they are allowed to be diverse but for those who are white male and christian....there is no classification for you.
Is their progress and reform that has given us in the last 50 years, anti-baby / anti-boy / anti-husband / anti-father feminists, late term abortions, race based civil riots and near civil wars, open borders for uncontrolled immigration, free trade (Johnson/Clinton) that allowed the outsourcing and offshoring of our jobs and industries, uncensored media that has turned news journalism into news entertainment and hollywood into the worlds capital of pornography, holocaust and apocolyptic violence devoid of any form of morality other than secular liberal free sex feminist morality.
Its a fact that african american families were more intact, out of wedlock births were a rarity and african american communities were vibrant before the liberals put forward social programs based on their victimization.
The very fact that Howard HAS NOT accomplished anything under her tenure as president says both that she does not deserve the job and that she would not have gotten the job had she not been both black and a woman.
If gender equality were such a vaulted goal by liberals then why dont girls sign up for selective service (draft) in order to receive college aid like boys? or why arent boys 50% of the decision making concerning abortion after all the female gender do no fertilize themselves.
Yes, my views ae quite simple and they are quite based in fact.
