Campieri's 888 Main

None of the interior fixes could quite prepare us for the stellar pizza that was presented to us. We split a four cheese (on half) and hot sausage (on the other) pizza. Not only was it a huge pizza, it was decided by our party of three that 888 would soon become an incredible downtown pizza destination. My guests, Harry Warren and David Johnson (Cannon Design) were quite happy with the decision (both restaurant and pizza). Harry commented that it was the best pizza that he has had in Buffalo. The ingredients and the crust are that good. It must be tried to be believed. It's pan pizza served as it should be... hot on a pan, complete with stand, lots of fresh ingredients, plenty of cheese, cooked to perfection. Now Harry wants to know if Dan is going to attempt a deep pan pizza... Dan?
Campieri's 888 Main Street is located at 888 Main Street. 716.362.0161
Open Mon.-Fri. 11am-3pm and Fri.-Sat. 5pm-11pm
From Christa's 'Everything But The Sink' post:
888 Main has opened, you'll probably recognize this space from previous posts we've run, most notably the one in which we asked YUM readers to help the owner name the new establishment. Though he picked "tre otto" as his favorite recommendation (and awarded Golden Lark a $100 gift certificate), he's decided to run with 888. Currently open for dinner, 888 is offering a partial menu which includes salads, sandwiches, wraps and an assortment of thin crust pizzas unique to our area. Also of note is the phenomenal selection of beers on tap. Watch for more items to be added to the menu and the addition of lunch service in the near future.

Don’t like what your neighbor is proposing for their property? Buy it. That is what just went down on Rumsey Lane. Sue Ann Simonin received City approvals to tear down a 1940’s ranch at 25-27 Rumsey (entry image) in anticipation of constructing her dream home last year. Her plans for the new residence ran into a buzzsaw of neighborhood opposition but finally received the necessary approvals to build in April. On Thursday she sold the site to an adjoining property owner. …
Here's something to ponder over the weekend. The Route 5 debacle has just snagged a spot in the organization Project for Public Spaces' Hall of Shame. After reading RaChaCha's post on the Ten Great Qualities of a Great Street (criteria from PPS), a couple of members of the organization (who saw the post) flew into Buffalo. RaChaCha and I toured them around and showed them all of the Cobblestone District advancements as well as the area in and around the Commercial Slip. When they …
Carl Paladino is shaking it up once again, and next to the calling for the toll barriers to come down, this may be a hit with the general public.
"I'm asking our legislative candidates to vote for a Constitutional Convention," Paladino said. "This can happen every twenty years, the last time being 1996, but it hasn't been done since 1938."
Paladino's objective, he says, is to get both houses to vote by majority for a referendum on the ballot. This, he explains, would put to vo …
The Nicole Kidman/Studio Arena hoax that recently hit the media is an opportunity for some discussion about the way news travels these days, and begs comment on the phrase "Any publicity is good publicity".
After speaking with someone closely related to Studio Arena, who wishes to stay anonymous, it seems like the Kidman hoax was timed perfectly—in order to circumvent corroboration—and named just the right names in order to look plausible. Add to that the fact that many of t …

Newell,
I have to agree. My family and I enjoyed a couple of different pizzas here, and if I were casting a vote for the best Buffalo-style pizza in town, based on my experiences thus far I'd have to say 888 would get it.

it is between the Hyatt art supply store and Granite Works just south of Allen Street but North of Virginia.
It is also my favorite Allentown pizza joint because not to be picky but that is where it is not in downtown. I finally can get good pizza and just blocks from my house!!

Any their size is what a large pizza should be. anyplace that gives you something smaller than this is ripping you off and one step closer to being Domino's.

Dan,
I quoted your dad (Lou) on the toilet room stalls and doors for the restaurant. I never heard back.
What did you end up doing?
Hopefully you purchased them in locally.
GOOD LUCK WITH THE RESTAURANT!

Pizzaboy,
A "thank you" for the quote, literature and time would have been nice.
You're welcome any way. :)

Okay, after reading this we HAD to check out the pizza and ordered one identical to the post. EXCELLENT! Especially the crust. I'm a meat eater and the sausage really hit home. The cheese was so zinga-zonga, it made the pie fun to eat. And Dan's a real doll with great customer service and personality. Thanks so much - we WILL be back!

I had dinner there recently and the place has great potential. The pizza really was one of the best I had, and the stuffed hot peppers too. Dan was has a great personality as does Roz, the bartender. It was a little odd spending more money on a bottle of wine than the rest of the meal cost, though. Not to say that the wine was overpriced (it was a nice wine list and fairly priced) but maybe some more "everyday" wines are needed or I should have had beer instead! The food arrived quickly and piping hot and like I said, delicious! The place has a few challenges though! They are in bad need of an interior designer. This place is huge with very high ceilings (so high I think they could add an upper level). It's like eating in a cavern or bowling alley. The very red and black color theme is a bit stark and shocking, and there are many hard surfaces like brick walls that need some softening up. It's not a cozy or welcoming place at all. Some artwork on the walls is needed too. I know it's been only a few weeks since the opening so maybe something like that is planned. The zen fountain in the front window is totally out of place, and the orange traffic cone doesn't add any ambiance either! (Those front windows also need to be washed.) Also, change the music! Soundtracks of live shows of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin with much talking, joking, laughing, etc. in them played way too loud were very annoying! The fish fries other diners ordered smelled wonderful and I noticed several doggie bags being packed. Best of luck with this restaurant Dan! Your food deserves it.

Ate there last night. Wow. Some of the best pizza I've ever eaten anywhere, and one of the best in WNY. Holy eggplant-parm pizza, mmmm. I have to say, I think this pizza may define "Buffalo style" pizza. NY has their style and Chicago has their style... This pizza is truly unique and original, yet tastes like something your grandmother would make. Very comforting and filling. It's way better than most of the "wonder bread" crust type pizza you get around WNY. The place itself is really slick. A tad too dark, and as the last poster said, a little softening of the decor would help. Oh, and like they said as well, more wine choices would be cool. But other than that, an amazing build out. It's a great addition to Buffalo dinning. Hopefully the word will get out and the place will fill up. Good luck Dan and job well done.

Hi Dan and Roz,
I told you I would.
The four cheese pizza is great, thin crispy crust, and the stuffed peppers nicely blistered with just enough filling to complement that nice hot pepper. The service very friendly and enthusiast, they want you to enjoy the food, and you will. Congratulations and good luck.

My wife & I recently moved to Buffalo & have heard about the great pizza and wings. Up until we ate at Campieri's we weren't that impressed. Campieri's is quite possibly the best pizza I have EVER had!!! Especially that Buffalo Chicken.... perfect is an understatement! We have not had the chance to sit & dine-in, however we've ordered take-out several times.
Tell you friends, this place is the best!!!! Forget La Nova's & Just Pizza, this is the real deal!

Neat. I was googling for 888 Main and found this thread. Looked at a few more google results and found this link to a vintage postcard from 1977 for Chin's Restaurant at the same location.

I just enjoyed pizza for the second time at 888. Delicious!!! Best pizza in Buffalo!!! We've had the pepperoni pizza both times, absolutely loved it, and look forward to trying a different pie next time we go...which will be very soon! A couple sitting next to us at the bar the first time we ventured in there was drooling over their scrumptious spinach/ricotta pizza...maybe that one will be next!!!

Been to 888 Main a few times. The best pizza in Buffalo hands down. They use the finest ingredients and have mastered the technique of a fantastic crispy crust. The food is very consistent. It's nice to have a great Pizza place in Allentown. Open Tuesday - Sunday evenings I believe.
Check it out - you won't be disappointed!!!

What a great place got a chance to meet Lou and Dan two very nice guys. The pizza is amazing and the crust is the best I have ever had. The peppers are OK. I found them a little bland however throw it on your pepperoni pizza and yum. I was shocked to see Pabst blue ribbon on tap. McSorleys was my choice. They have a good selection on tap tho I think some of the more everyday selections could be replaced by some better choices ie flying bison, or I think an ellicottville blueberry or a blue moon would compliment some of these pizzas well. I did notice on the way out they serve Southern TIer bottles so I will definitely be trying one of those out with my next pie. I see this place taking off.
You must try this pizza.

Yesterday, me and wife stopped at 888 main for pizza. Getting her there was no easy task. You see, we both grew up on Bocce pizza. And now we live right around the corner from Bocces. I unlike my wife will give others a try and after getting her there, we were not dissaponited. 888 was fantastic. You can take your time and enjoy the atmosphere and not worry about being rushed. The pizza was hot and delicious. I wish we would've got one to go, but we were so full we just couldn't do it.The wine selection was great. If you want really great pizza and time away from the t.v. get to 888 main. You will be glad you did. Craig & Nicole 3/21/08

The pizza at Campieri's is still #1, hands-down. We actually had a very disappointing pizza from Just Pizza tonight. We would have gone to Campieri's, but we still have our fingers crossed for a take-out option from there and we needed take-out tonight due to our schedules. We did visit Campieri's very recently and the pizza we had was, as usual, perfect. Their pizza is also THE BEST reheated the next day on a pizza stone. The crust is perfect. If Dan would add a spinach/ricotta/sausage pizza to his menu, it would be divine!!!

O.K. I have to make a bad comment!! I do love the pizza. BUT we have kids and right now they're in pajamas getting ready for bed and me and my wife want 888 main pizza. But, they only have dine in. I could go and pick it up while my wife stays home with our tots until I come back. Sounds o.k. right? NO. 888 main only has dine in and they would rather lose the money to another up and coming pizza joint rather give me a pizza to go. NOT good business sense if you ask me. What if I go in and order a pizza, eat one slice, ask for box and go home. I mean that's what's happens anyway. They give you a box to take home what you can't eat. O.k. I guess it'll be bocce club or leonardis. I mean what couple with a 6 and 3 year old can go out and dine in at 10pm

Hi Massfour, I apologize for not doing take-out. Maybe in the future. Some people don't understand but I didn't spend 2 1/2 years re-habbing this buildind to be a take-out pizza joint. trust me, I've worked at those places before. they don't put the love into it the way we do. I hope you understand. I also hope you come in on Friday when our new menu debuts with 5 pasta dishes, steak, pork tenderloin, calamari and more!

Best pizza in Buffalo!!
My husband and I moved here a year ago and have been consistently disappointed with the pizza places we tried. However, tonight we were pleased to find an exception to the rule: the pizza and service are great!!
Just a note: they have dinner hours during the week (contrary to the hours listed in the initial review).
Dear owner, take-out would also be a nice option (b/c with a baby on the way, dinner out will soon be a thing of the past).
