Calling All Buffalo Foodies!
Buffalo Rising Magazine is looking for your expertise.
Are you one of those who love to dine out on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Does spending hours chained to the stove sound like an unappealing way to spend your holiday? Many traditional folks disdain the idea of dining out on what is seen as a cozy, homey family holiday. I, however, respectfully disagree. After weeks of planning, baking, shopping, wrapping, partying and last but not least, entertaining my housebound children, I find a holiday dinner out with my family to be a little gift to myself (and those that don't have to endure my frazzled pre-six course meal frenzy).
I,Aeod love to hear from you if you have a favorite restaurant that is willing to open their arms (and kitchens) to our fine city on the mother of all holidays. If you are the owner of one of these lovely establishments, I,Aeod like to hear from you as well.
Cheers! christa@buffalorising.com

It's great to see stylish, hip, new restaurants pop up downtown such as Sea Bar on Ellicott Street, which specializes in contemporary Japanese food. A clean ultra-modern space, Sea Bar’s dining room is quaint and inviting. The sleek sushi bar has counter seating and the wet bar, with beer, sake, and wine, has at least 10 sakes to choose from on any given night. We were happy to try a Sojitio, a sake mojito, which had the right amount of mint without too much sweetness.

Ten years ago, the downtown of My Fair City was forever altered when a Big Dinosaur appeared on the scene. Thankfully—unlike 1950’s Tokyo—when this dino showed up our downtown wasn’t flattened, but considerably improved. Dinosaur Bar B Que, a restaurant that originated in downtown Syracuse in the 1980’s, planted its foot in downtown Rochester in 1998. It was an instant hit—it’s common to have a line waiting to get in at all times. And it’s clearly Hog Heaven— …
Cecelia’s Ristorante & Martini Bar is prepared to guide their guests through the tastes of fall with their brand new fall menu. Although it is getting a bit too cold for the patio, the hardy food inside will warm things right up.
I started out with the Harvest Salad ($8) and the “Lumpy” Crab Cakes ($9). The Harvest Salad was served with a rosemary citrus vinaigrette, and topped with apricots, beets, pine nuts, walnuts, dried cranberries, and other assorted dried fruits. …
One of the perks my daughter's friends enjoy about a sleepover at my home (other than rearranging the furniture for movie time) are the crepes I serve our guests in the morning.
I can remember sleepover breakfasts from when I was a kid that consisted of potato chips and soda from the night before. If the lack of sleep didn't make us dizzy and irritable enough, the fat, salt and sugar we ingested in the morning would make sure the entire day would be counted for lost. Ugh.

I believe that buying the prepared dishes from the Coda (article below) is the perfect compromise. No work and still "the cozy, homey, family holiday".

Every year after church, my family goes to Gabriel's Gate. It is often quiet and we get a whole room to ourselves, with the firplaces roaring and often snow coming down on the back patio. Been going for 10 straight years.

Fill,
Depending upon the response we receive for Thanksgiving, we might consider offering Christmas-to-Go.

Christa, This Thanksgiving we orderd dinner from The Coda, one of Buffalo's finest restaurents. Our meal was delivered early afternoon. Everything was packaged in its container, with a sheet of instructions for reheating. The usual suspects for a Thanksgiving dinner were ordered, however this meal was anything but usual. Everything had that beautiful Coda touch. It was all fresh and perfectly cooked. Just a reheating and it was perfect. We would do this again anytime. Thanks to Chef Roo and Keren and the great staff for a wonderful holiday meal!

A call to The Viking lobster company will get you a reservation, for a Christmas Day Buffet. Lobster, Crab legs, Shrimp, Ribs, Beef, Chicken and an assortment of other interesting items will be presented. The seating is limited, reserve early, $29.95 per person, available 5:pm thru 8:pm , and still leaves time for a movie.
