Buffalo's Good Samaritans

Iid like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank the many people who, by their very actions, give Buffalo itis well-deserved reputation as a caring, friendly, helpful city. Whether itis a familiar good neighbor or a complete stranger, compared to many other cities, people here simply seem to be more willing to lend a helping hand. Of course, I donit know all of these good Samaritans, but I can give a ihatis offi to the three who came to my rescue Sunday afternoon. I had just stopped by Hoyt Lake to take a photo as the snow fell. When I returned to my car a minute later, it wouldnit start. Nothing. Not a sound.
My quick but primitive diagnostics suggested that it was probably just the battery and not the starter or alternator, but I had a bad case of laryngitis and no cell phone. Not quite sure yet how I was going to tackle this challenge, I got out to take a look at the engine. Iim not exaggerating, I had barely popped the hood up when Sam, Jeff and Dave (pictured above) had turned their vehicle around and stopped to ask if I needed some help. Why, yes. Yes I did. It is wonderful that I easily got the help I needed, but what is most amazing is how quickly that help was offered! The three amigos were on their way to Wegmanis to get food for their Super Bowl party that day but were kind enough to take a moment to help a idamsel in distress.i Fortunately, my diagnostics were correct and all that my car needed was a jump start. A few minutes later, we were all heading our separate ways again. Thanks again guys. I hope you had a great party!

It’s really a shame if you missed the reading series “Poetry at the Tea House” that took place at Tru-Teas! during this past year. Luckily, Trudy Stern didn’t want anyone to miss out and teamed up with Michael Morgulis to produce an incredibly fine, unbound book entitled “Tea Leaves” to commemorate the readings and spread the work of the local poets who partook in the program.
In honor of the publication of this special edition portfolio, Morgulis and Stern are hostin …
I think that I would like to start off this post by commending the three Common Council members who were bold enough to ask for today's bizarre Waterfront Village decision to be tabled. David Franczyk, Mickey Kearns and Mike LoCurto all stuck to their guns when it came to holding off on making any hasty (and potentially tragic) decisions regarding our waterfront. Unfortunately, their headstrong stance was outweighed by the rest of the BURA committee, and the rumors are flying as t …
A development team has been selected for a vacant commercial site in Waterfront Village. Finally. The Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency this morning named Specialty Restaurants Incorporation as preferred developer for the prime 1.4 acre parcel at 10-15 LaRiviere Drive. The owner of the adjacent Shanghai Red’s restaurant is proposing an uninspired, four-story, 100 room Wingate Inn.

Thanks for sharing your nice story. I think that helping people is good karma and will always come back to you eventually. Hope everyone has heard about this recent story of two Western New York strangers who've coincidentally been good samaritans to each other during two separate life-saving incidents six years apart: http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20060205/1054419.asp Amazing!
