Buffalo Ruse Is Now Online

If you can't make fun of your own city from time to time, then you must live in one of those 'perfect' cities where... everything is perfect. If you don't live in one of those 'perfect' cities and you find that living in a city like Buffalo suits you better, I bet that you have a sense of humor regarding day-to-day quirkiness. There are times when you scratch your head and wonder what the heck is going on, right? Is UB still investing on a swamp in Amherst? Is someone paying off The Bills to kick wide right? Did we really just re-elevate Route 5? There are many times when all you can do is poke fun at a situation. That's why there's a website out there called The Buffalo Ruse. This morning I was asked by Ruse editor, Murray Lite, to pass along the URL to our readers along with one of the paper's latest headlines titled, Bass Pro to City: “I’ll call you”.
Bass Pro officials indirectly released a statement to the city of Buffalo recently, stating that they would “Totally call”. They added that they have “just been super busy lately”. The statement was passed along through a mutual friend who works with the wife of Mayor Brown’s cousin....

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

Thanks for pointing out the website. The Ruse is very, very, funny. We need more humor like that around here. Besides, the News could use something pointing out its flaws. Some of its columnists need a kick in the arse.

The Ruse writers seem familiar to me. I think these are the same folks who mercilessly harassed Jerry Sullivan in his Buffalo News sports blog. I recognize their writing. Sullivan was bruised & bloodied. And it was hilarious. As is The Buffalo Ruse. Congrats to these guys for keeping a sense of humor about our City.

This is confusing. Aren't most BuffaloRising.com "articles" meant as satire we play along with?
But then why would you promote this new competing satire web site? That wouldn't make sense... unless..... wait, OMG no...no, it can't be! Does this mean Sycamore Village is really happening??? No way! Money for people to hammer peace murals onto rotting houses - it really happened? The new big office tower some gazillionaire from England said he'd build with his own money, 40 floors - it was supposed to be serious?
Are we to believe there really are people who hate cars and suburbs so much? And that there were a bunch of radio interviews talking about how great a bike collection is? How about all those "green jobs" articles - not satire? Why do pictures always show Sam Hoyt smirking when he talks about those? And that guy "in Chicago" with all the drama about everything --- he's real????
At least some of all that stuff must be fake, but how are readers supposed to know which? Won't it be even more confusing now that there's two BR's - Rising and Ruse? I think I speak for most of us when I say we want to comment only about the fake things. At least keep dropping hints in the writing so we know when something's made up. Words like renaissance, green, upswing, etc. - those should help. Cobblestone District. That's always good too.
