Buffalo Rising Decides the Presidency?!

My Buffalo friends could hear me laughing out loud from over 60 miles away this weekend when I received my own personalized copy of a viral video that’s been sweeping the nation like a political landslide. I’d heard about this phenomenon from friends, but never thought I’d really see my own name in a CNN/MSNBC look-alike news broadcast. Yet there I was.
In this broadcast, news anchor “Bill Peterson”—ironically, the same name as one of My Fair City’s most popular TV meteorologists—tells the post-2008 election nation that the selection of the president came down to one voter who failed to vote—me!
I was mentioned by name throughout the broadcast, which said that I had been ostracized by the nation, and even taken into protective custody. Protesters and mobs out for my blood were shown and “interviewed.” In a moment that had me rolling on the floor laughing, the camera focused in on one sweet-looking old lady, “Marcianne Walsh,” who turned ferocious and let out a hilarious stream of bleep-filled invective against me. From the other side, I found myself being praised by political figures from President Bush to Bill O’Reilly, saying I must be a Factor-watching patriot.
The best part was that at the end of the video I was presented with an easy and secure way to pass on the fun to my friends. To test the process, I sent a version to myself naming Buffalo Rising as the culprit. It was a hoot watching Buffalo Rising dominate the national news, get thoroughly cussed out by Marcianne Walsh, and heaped with praise by Bill O’Reilly.

With this video spreading virally, chances are decent that between now and Election Day you’ll have a similar chance to see your own name take center stage, and pass the gag along to your friends. If not, I discovered that you can start your own infection here.
Don’t be the one who forgets to vote on Tuesday, November 4—Marcianne Walsh may know where you live!

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …
