Buffalo Hearing and Speech

Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center’s Language to Literacy program helps students who have difficulty with paying attention, listening, following directions, and language and reading skills. The program takes a back to basics approach teaching critical foundational skills in a hierarchical way to establish success with listening, language and reading. Students begin the program with strengths and weaknesses in different areas, which are utilized and built upon.
Mikala had trouble paying attention and remembering directions and her language and reading skills were not age appropriate upon starting the program. During the program, she learned many strategies and skills that helped to improve her ability to recall information, follow directions and be a self-advocate. After the program, she had impressive gains in her test scores and more importantly, her parents noticed significant improvement. Mikala’s parents teach students with learning disabilities and know how difficult it is for them to apply new skills in a different setting, therefore they have been extremely impressed with their daughter’s continued use of strategies at school and at home. They expressed that they “would (and have) highly recommend the BHSC Language to Literacy program to others!”
Ben began the program with significant difficulty focusing on the speaker, staying on task, and practicing good listening skills. Following the program his parents reported that "his attention span lengthened, he was excited to do his homework, and his self confidence grew by leaps and bounds!” They expressed that “going back to basics has made all the difference in the world for our son.”
Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center takes great pride in the success of the student’s who have attended the Language to Literacy Program. The program runs in the winter, summer, and fall. In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …
